Massive incoming grain and food shortages

We feed them almost all our leftovers minus a few things the internet tells us to avoid. The old flip a board trick is nice.

I also farm maggots for them. It's quite easy to turn compost into a significant food supply for chickens. We use feed as a primary source, of course, but if it gets really really bad I'll increase my maggot farming operation.

For those interested, the best case scenario is getting a black soldier fly operation going, but if that's too much trouble and you don't mind the stink it's literally no skill or knowledge required for house fly maggots.

We are also fortunate to have enough land to free range them.

Let's hope we figure out a way through all this without it getting much worse (diesel, etc), the ramifications/reverberations of the current state of things will be bad enough.

We rarely feed scraps and still have a tone of flies. So I don't think adding scraps to yours would make a difference. Just my opinion though.

Oh no I was referring to the solider fly suggestion. I'm over flies in general and seeing that monster was enough to push me over the edge with flies.

Never heard of soldier flies. We have giant horse flies instead.

Fact or fiction ? Went to TSC on Friday. Shelves were 50% short of dog food. Asked at checkout and they said that dog food companies, especially Purina, were having problems getting needed ingredients.
