Massive Rant

Actually, I think you can get skunk stink in a bottle. I believe something like that is sold for deer hunters to mask their human scent. That would be funny & probably effective!

That's great in theory, but reality is you'll never get close enough to get it on the dogs, and you'll just end up smelling like a skunk yourself

They're illegal in most states

I have shot Fireworks to scare dog off my land. It has work for me in the past.

well, I can't get the multi-right But, what Bear Foot said. 1 - In many states fireworks are illegal. 2. Not all dogs are going to be bothered by the sound of fireworks while others will be terrified. 3. shooting/throwing fireworks at the dog is going to get you an animal cruelty charge if you injure the dog.

If the dog is on your property repeatedly and you have it taken to AC, you aren't going to be charged with stealing. Now, if they were able to prove that you removed the dogs ID and THEN took them in and lied about not knowing who they belong to? Then maybe the owner could take you to small claims court, but even that would be iffy. In my opinion, lying never solved any problems so I avoid it. And removing the dogs ID and saying you don't know who they belong to is stupid since taking them to the pound is perfectly within your rights. Give the woman's name and phone # to AC when you drop them off and let them call her to come get the dogs.

I would also talk to my local sheriff. Tell them the situation and ask them to please inform the woman of the consequences of her dogs running loose (legal to shoot them) and hopefully that will get her attention.

I'm not sure what you can use for the stink - the last time I did it to a dog that was harrassing my chickens, the first thing i could put my hands on was a huge bottle of white vinegar - I poured the whole thing on the dogs head - it never came back

Vinegar in a spray bottle (industrial kind with strong sprayer) is a very good deterrent for dogs, cats and even squirrels if you learn to aim well. It burns their eyes but doesn't do any damage.

Fireworks are legal here. You can't get close to some of the dogs to hurt them. Its to scare them off. Most of these dogs are wild ! The wild one might have rabies. We are having a rabies out- break here. 4 people and some pets have been bitten in the past week so far!!!!!! If i can catch them will take them back to the owners or to the pound. In the past animal control and others if they can't catch them due to safety reason they shoot them.

if you think there is even remotely a possibility of rabies, call AC and let them handle it or shoot the dog on sight.
