Mating before crowing?

It's possible that he just started. My buff orp, Steve, didn't start until he was almost 4 months old. My other 2 boys would crow all the time, but he never made a peep. I don't know if it had to do with him not being the dominant rooster or if it's just how the breed is.
My bantam cockerel started trying to crow when he was about 2 months old. He sounded like someone stepped on a dog toy.
Aww that's cute! This is our 5th time with a cockerel and I was just surprised that this guys started mating so early but not crowing. His crow was surprisingly good when I first noticed it. Fingers crossed this guy is nice enough to keep. So far so good but I know it's too soon to tell.

I hope your boy is a nice one. My late bloomer was such a nice boy, but I don't know if it's a sign that he won't be aggressive. Steve didn't have that awkward phase either, but maybe that's b/c they are older so things are more developed, I'm not sure. He did have a couple days where he sounded like he was struggling, but then he started crowing like he'd been doing it for months. Maybe it's like an instrument where they have to practice for before they get it right.
