May 11th Loaded Hatchalong...

Good luck to you as well! And thanks for joinin in! Yeah if I somehow manage a 100% hatch I'll be loaded with chicks for a bit, but sadly I don't expect it to be close to that high

. This is a home made bator made by another local member, it has been used by him and one other member and worked out okay (not sure at what hatch rates) and the water heater thermostat controlling the 60w light bulb is a little finicky. Only time will tell though!

Awesome news KansasBoy!

If those all hatch, you'll have your hands full!

If you don't mind me asking, how close is your water heater thermostat to your 60W bulb? I'm on day 8 of my homemade incubator and it's only varying about .7 degrees. I have my thermostat about 1.5 inches from the bulb.

Here's a pic of my candling I did yesterday. I was thrilled with what I saw.

Keep up the good work!

About 6" away and it varies about 5 degrees (literally 97-102 was the best I could get)

. I'd been wondering if having it closer would help... But kinda got no answers when I'd asked so I left it alone!

Yeah, I wouldn't want to mess with it at this stage of the game.

Perhaps before your next hatch you can fiddle with it some. I think upping the bulb to 75 or even 100 watts and moving the thermostat 3 inches closer would help immensely. By all means — I'm no expert, but it's working wonders for me. I moved mine 4 times before I finally got it stable.

Happy hatching!

So update time again I guess, of 48 eggs only 25 made any progress, one day from expected hatch date and no pips

. I swear as I was falling asleep last night though I heard chirping from the incubator... Possibility?!?! I'm going to continue to hold out a few more days and see what happens... But it's not looking so good thus far!

Editted to add: It's confirmed, I have a chirper! It's an EE... Atleast I know I've got a one happy baby!

And first out is a blue EE, now there's a new EE chirper and I have a Cochin pipped! I have a feeling it's going to be a long day!
