May 2, 2009 Cocke County TN, APA ABA Sanctioned Show

Once this current bator load is done I've been banned from hatching for the rest of the year

But I have a cute Polish I hatched from antiquebuff's birds and he'll need a girlfriend. He's either white or a pale pale buff, and the kids named him 'Einstein' because of the hairdo.

I'm going to have to

at the show. DH made me enter his chicken girlfriend cause she's looking so pretty after her molt. But she's a hatchery bird and I know she's outclassed.
The things I do to make my family happy <sigh> Give up hatching for months on end.... Enter birds into shows that aren't 'mine'....

I don't know If I could survive a year long ban! lol
I'm probably going to enter the Polish even though they aren't show quality. I have a really nice Birchen Cochin bantam hen that is raising a chick right now. Do you think it would be alright to put in the brooder for a day, or do you think the momma would be too stressed to show?

Most of my decent birds aren't old enough to be show quality, but I'm entering them anyway just to get them used to the process. Plus, the test will still be valid when the TVA show comes along in September.

I had to go cold-turkey on hatching from June '08- January '09, so I know I can survive. It's not a ban if I save up enough $ to buy a large shed to keep the brooders in. DH wants his garage back. Go figure

How old is the cochin's chick? If it's not real young, then she would probably do alright, but not take it back after the show. Actually, even if it's newly hatched she might not take it back! Has she been a goof mama so far?

She's really been a great momma up til now! the baby's only about a week or 2 so I'm thinking it'd be a bad idea. I think there's a picture of her on my page. She doesn't have enough silver around her neck as she should so she probably wouldn't be able to win.

If you did want to enter her, you'd have to decide today or tomorrow since the entries are due by Sunday...
She's a pretty hen. I don't know that standard, though.

What color is Muffy? I have an Amercauna that same color...

Hi, sorry, I've been so busy with planting & preparing the gardens!!!
We sent off our form today, DD is entering a 10mo old Buff Orpington Cockerel in this show, so we'll be there. I'll probably just coop him in during the morning on Saturday around 7 or 7:30 so I'll try to find you again to say Hi... then maybe we'll head out & get some breakfast and come on back when the show actually starts... of course.. on the other hand... maybe I'll just bring some food with.

I only live 20 minutes away so I'm looking forward to meeting so many of you! I'll keep my KittyCrafts hand painted TOTE on my arm... you'll notice it's handpainted with my Dawn on the Farm logo

I'm pretty sure Muffy's an EE but I think she resembles a blue duckwing sort of color or something like that, I love her though! she's one of my favorites!
she's actually recently become special needs, I think she fell and hurt her brain and she's developed epilepsy!!

I had no Idea chickens could get epilepsy, but she does! light triggered and everything!

Poor Muffy!

Hey, the lady who takes entries for the show said that she doesn't think there will be an admission fee to get into the poultry show....

Almost got dh talked into it......but I'll have to have my crew tag along since ALL my babysitters will be tied up so I'm not sure he will agree. If we go, I sure hope there are some turkeys, ducklings, wellies, and some pretty silkie hens there. That's what I'll be looking for
