I dont believe Mike and I are having anything else until perhaps Halloween in the fall. @mymilliefleur

Did my Day 14 candle on my last 2 Bielefelder eggs in the bator. I could see some veins and feathers, but one was not moving at all and the other one was only moving slightly. Crossing my fingers but I don't have a lot of hope for these eggs. This is my 3rd time hatching & the last 2 times I saw a lot more movement. Maybe these chicks will just be super calm and mellow???? Maybe???

Well, the broody is still sitting away on her 6 eggs so hopefully hers will hatch at least. I haven't candled hers cause she is way back under a bush and really hard to reach.

The dang broodies! Good thing I left them with only 2 chicks! I just found them lifeless and sprawled out in the coop! They are in the incubator and I am going to give them electrolytes! Anything else I can do?!

oh dang!!! I think you have it under control as much as you can sweets! how are they now poor things I also hate broodies just sayin!

It gives me excuses to set more eggs....

There is cheeping coming from underneath my broody. She, of course, is being a nerd, and acts very offended if I so much as look at her, so I guess I'll have to wait a while before I get to figure out how many her eggs hatched. Technically, it's two days early. I thought that only happened with incubators.

I had the opportunity to spread some learning yesterday. During a conversation I was having with several coworkers, knowing that I keep chickens, one coworker made a half-joking comment about pregnant chickens. I casually mentioned that chickens don't get pregnant; a comment that was met with blank stares, then the hesitant statement from said coworker that of course they must, because they have babies. My reply, 'Yes, they have chicks; they lay eggs, and if the eggs are fertile, they can hatch them out' lead us into the conversation of how a hen doesn't need to mate in order to lay eggs, and then into misconceptions around what can and can't happen with fertile eggs. One coworker routinely had been throwing out any store-bought, refrigerated eggs older than 2 weeks, for fear they might start developing. It's always a surprise to me when I find myself in these types of conversations; so much of this seems like plain common sense now. It does make me wonder what misconceptions I carry around that I could use some correcting on.

A nerdy chicken!!! ha ha ha love it!!

They are WAY better right now. Not 100% by any means but not on the verge of death either. I had some good broodies and thought they might all me the same. I was wrong. They are good at hatching though! The only good thing about these things that happen is that I get more experience on how to handle these types of situations

Update here: Trying to nurse my weak poult so s/he can start running around with the other birds in the brooder. Another EE egg hatched today

and a brown egg has a pip. both of them are of the 4 eggs due tomorrow. Then 1 egg due Sunday and 1 egg due Monday. Then a few weeks break I believe before anything hatches in June.

HEY, maybe by the next HAL my ducks will be laying..... Nah, yer out of your mind Bubbles! You'd have to keep them inside all winter! But.... Hang on, gotta consult myself on this....
