Put eggs on lockdown yesterday! I somehow managed to set them so that that would hatch when I am out of town! Luckily someone can take care of them for me! Hopefully it all goes smooth!
Meant to put this in the April hatc a long
1f601.png
GOOD LUCK!!!

41 set 7 days ago. 39 looking great so far. 2 I can't really tell the eggs are a bit dark in color.

I have 8 RIR hens, 5 white leghorn hens, 5 black astrolorp hens. They have 3 husband's. 1 silver spitzhauben, 1 gold spitzhauben and 1 lavender orpington. All the kids are 11-13 months and very happy healthy bug eating machines. I'm not sure what I will have in the end but I'm getting crazy excited! !! 14 day until fuzzy butts. 11 until lockdown.

Oh and forgot to say, this is my first incubating run. I just got my LG bator from TSC 7 days ago.

Any tips or a vice welcome.
I see you have the Hatching 101 Article! @Chicken girl 15

NEVER USE VENT holes as a means to Control HUMIDITY especially during HATCH DAYS!

You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg?

You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss?

You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on?

Try to add water above in containers and not in the troughs until lockdown?

Saw two wigglers at least. Lockdown was supposed to be tonight but the external pip on the one made me do it last night instead. This happened last time I incubated Ancona as well. Than the first pipper took 60+ hrs to hatch

Believe it or not they are the first time I've tried taking pictures of what I was candling and all were taken with my cell phone.

holy cow 60 hours, sure do take their time,
thats pretty good then

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 in the incubator to hatch in May, so I'm in. Besides I REALLY NEED the coop!

As of yesterday, I have 9 broodies too.

Over run with chicks is an understatement!

YAY!!!!!
the eggs were no more than 48 hours old at incubation set. They are all from my flock of 18 hens and 3 roosters. The flock is 11-13 months old depending on the hen. Humidity has been steady at 40%, and temp at 101 (both watched by 3 thermometer/hygrometer ) . Its a TSC LG bator with the TSC turner no fan. I did not wash, rinse, spray or in any other way clean the eggs. I simply gathered them in an egg carton and once I had enough (took 2 days) I filled the bator. Eggs were stored air cell up and are incubating the same way.
400
That's today. Day 8 , look about right?
