Eggs now going into my farm Innovator incubator while it says up to 48 eggs, smaller batches hatch better especially since I hand turn, nobody touching walls leaving a gap in center for the heat (warmest where the heat comes out.) I have one of the lower troughs filled with a penny from before 1982 in trough. black square the heat comes out, no fan. I leave out the plugs.

The top I bought this incubator new, but the lid needed to be down better, I taped it down, but it still has vents. When this was sent to me it was sent in the box it came in no outer box. But it works.

I cleaned it out from last hatch with just soap and water, and let it sit in the sun for 1 hr to dry and de-germ. The have been hatching on day 22, I did pre-warm the eggs in a diff incubator.

Eep; I’m thinking my little shipped duckies might hatch early... at least the one. The air cell on this one has been the worst of the surviving eggs, and it’s suddenly gotten much larger, although the humidity has been around 60% this entire time. I candled this morning because the temp was reading high - plan was to turn it down a bit today anyways as those ducks sure put out a lot of heat. But the air cell is now about 1/3 of the egg, and I could see the bill pushing against the membrane, but no internal pip yet. This seems extra early to me, it’s only day 23... could it start this early and still be ok? The air cell runs from the one edge of where it should be on the fat end of the egg, and goes about 3/4 of the length of the egg along the side. As I said, this was the worst air cell out of the lot and I’m surprised it’s gotten this far. Lol. I’ll try to get a pic of it later, when it’s not so darn bright out. Always an adventure!

I went to go and eggtopsy two eggs that were from my own flock that had no movements and slight discoloring. Opened one and almost grabbed the membrane and it MOVED! Thankfully Ionly opened a tiny bit. So into the bator!

the second one I started opening and got a hole the size of an eraser and BAM there this bill moving.

what the heck is going on!:barnie These eggs are eight days or five days over due!:he Two of them I hadn’t see anything so much a twitch in two days!

so I am currently waiting now on two New Jersey eggs, and two BEI eggs from my own flock in my Hatcher.

the one that hatched yesterday with the belly thing looks stronger. I put it in the brooder and it still has a bit of that belly hernia, but much smaller than before. Hopefully it will keep going down as time passed.

The egg that completely hatched and was alone for the last two days now named RogueOne after the Star Wars movie.

She is running around and causing problems. She escaped the brooder last night and we found her in the bathroom next to the toilet🤣

Hey guys it’s me again! Only 9 more days for my bobwhites to hatch! We have 14 eggs and they are all fertilized. I also have a surprise... my Texas A&M that lives with my bobwhites, we recently found out he is a male. He’s been mating with my bob hens and we think some of the chicks might be hybrids. I don’t know, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed!!! I’ll post a pic of the chicks when they hatch. Can’t wait!!!

We have a pip in one of the Japanese Bantam / True Blue crosses! It's upside-down of course, lol. I'm interested in seeing what size these chicks will hatch out. I assumed they would grow to the size of the eggs but when candling 3 of the chicks looked small and 1 looked normal sized. This is the first time I've hatched chicks with this big of a size difference in the parents though, lol.

But they are in your backyard......Bear Country USA. Lol! (The Black Hills is one of our favorite places to go for a vacation that is "realativly close" to home.) We have Mountain Lions....some spotted within a couple miles of our house stalking a neighbor and her horse when they were out for a ride. I don't go for walks much anymore just for that reason.
As long as the bear stay at Bear Country, I'm okay with that. :lau As for mountain lions, we always carry when going on a walk/hike. That will prolly work as long as we see the lion before the lion sees us. Plus we usually have dogs along who would be more likely to smell them. Don't want bears too, for sure.
Ducklings are hatching
My ducklings have graduated. This morning we herded them down to the north end and showed them the pond. :lau They may never leave it. Full of duckweed, and a creek runs through it. Duckie heaven! 'Course it's froze solid two thirds of the year.
