Congratulations! I hope you have a fantastic hatch.Just wanted to pass along it is day 7 +9 hours on the incubation.
We ended up with 15 eggs we put in the incubator.
Candled them just a few minutes ago, I forgot to draw the air sac lines but over all my daughter and I are ecstatic. It appears we have embryos for sure in 14 eggs with veins, one looks like a dud for sure, we put it back in and will keep it till day 14 just Incase we missed something, large black area, and saddled. Out of the 14 with veins, we clearly saw movement in at least 8. So let’s see what day 14 looks like..
I think you'd be better off to start them right away, once they're at room temperature. If you decide to wait, I store them in the cool basement in an egg carton, in a generous sized plastic bag, elevating first one end, then the other. Whether this "turning" helps or not is a matter of controversy. I'm pretty sure it doesn't hurt themHello LadiesI just got my box of shipped eggs yesterday and they have now rested point down 24 hours. My plan is to rest them for 48 hours before setting to let my bator get nice and happy. Amazon jacked my order and my bator with the turner that was supposed to be here tomorrow ended up canceled after jacking up both my debit cards *sigh* after finally getting a US based supervisor I now have a better bator coming on the 4th for the same price. So now I’m wondering if I should rest the eggs until then where they are in the carton on top of the dresser and just let them chill or if I should go ahead and start the in my still air basic cheap hovabator style and hand turn till the roller style gets here on the 4th . I’ve also read where some people have left shipped eggs just in cartons and not turned so I’m like
I’m a little out of my element. I raise exotic birds and while I am familiar with incubation they incubate differently than these chicks. There’s no lock down. With my babies I just stop turning when they internal pip into the air cell. Soooo. Fire away ladies let’s discuss!
I have 8 Swedish Flower Hen eggs due to hatch tomorrow, and another 4 on Saturday. Both under broody hens.. fingers crossed!
Should I be weighing first? This didn’t cross my mind I have a mail scale I could do this quick this morning I set last night*Squeee* candled on day 4 because I was impatient (and I also wanted to weigh my eggs, which I didn't do when I put them in the incubator because the scale went MIA) and 7 of my 9 are clearly developing! I also got another batch of eggs in the mail which I will put in the incubator tomorrow (I do have a separate hatcher, so the staggered hatch should not be an issue).
Are the Maran eggs the super dark chocolate looking ones?Candled everyone last night at end of day 10. 8/9 are looking good.....pretty sure number 9 is a clear, but my 11 year old wanted to put it back until day 14...so we did. It’s a maran egg so it’s hard to tell, but the other maran egg clearly has a chick inside. Measured all air sacks and will check again in 5 days or so!
