May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I haven't posted but I am doing a May hatch. Last night I candled my eggs in preparation for lockdown. One has looked strange from the beginning but I had candled my eggs and had them in a bowl on my kitchen counter so I couldn't quite figure it out. This is my 3rd hatch, so I have a lot to learn. I decided to take the egg out and examine the contents. To my surprise it was a boiled egg!! After a short investigation it turns out my friends 4 year old had been checking out the eggs during a visit and got them mixed up! It also explains why I made a huge mess attempting to peel what turned out to be a raw egg!
I just peed a little !! LMFAOOOOOOO !!!

They will probably be okay. Some incubators have built in 1 to 2 hour cool downs now to simulate the hen leaving the nest. Here's a link to Brinsea's article on this feature

Very interesting articles! I had planned on putting the eggs under a broody hen, so I left the turner out and have been hand turning, which does give them a short cooling period.

Oh wow! That would be quite the surprise!!!

The first chick was travelling around and around the incubator, until #2 began to zip, then it stayed right there w it.

This little one needs an awesome name though because it has a shield on its head. Thought about naming it Jedi but what do you think?

update on my Welshies no one has pipped yet. But they aren’t due to hatch until tomorrow.

many other black EastIndie eggs are down to 8. 5 still going from the lost shipment from jersey and my first three fertilized ones from my black East Indie pair.

I have 18 Aztec eggs in another bator but I am not sure how they are doing yet as they just hit day three.

Also trying to hatch out more chickens from a friend for her. I am still debating on if and what breed I want to do for chickens for myself. It needs to have smaller combs through because bigger ones kinda freak me out. I am taking suggestions.

I’ve been following from afar and set 18 silkie and Cochin eggs (11 of which made it to lockdown) that were due to hatch on Friday. Guess who insisted on making an early appearance? Yeah, I was more than a little shocked, lol. I didn’t even have time to take the egg turner out when he started zipping so I had to duck in and out really quickly to remove it.
