May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

What do you do with everything you hatch?
Sell them or give them to friends... Usually I sell them unless my friends have their eye on one.

I have nothing that I've hatched besides 3 chicks (including the two that just hatched) right now and 3 quail. Everything else has sold.

Silkies are my absolute favorite. I have 12 now that are almost a year old. I have 3 chicks I hatched out almost 2 weeks ago, one of my girls is sitting on 6-8 silky eggs due to hatch anytime and I have 2 incubators going with a total of close to 50 more. Depending on how many hatch I might have to get rid of some, but it will be hard.:love
My first silky that I got was in the bantam bin at Tractor Supply all by itself. When I went into Tractor Supply last week they had four silkies and four mystery chicks and they sold them to me for a discount. I also had two others that I had purchased before with another two, but those two did not make it for some reason I assume it's because they were shipped in that day when I picked them up so all the stress of moving around and such took a toll on them.

Day 17. I just looked in the incubator and saw one egg externally pipped. Is that ok? I unplugged the turner and added water to up the humidity. This is my first hatch and I'm so nervous!

Wow! That's an early baby! Yes, you can stop turning them as early as day 14 with no detrimental effects.

I tried the ones from the fish section, they shattered on me. It was crazy and I have had it happen twice now.

So I brought a few Govees and have them going they seem to keep temp pretty good and I can calibrate it if I find it is wrong.

where can I find the Govee. Is that something on Amazon?

I have 3 of the Govee Thermometers and love them. But I have found that you should double check them every so often with a calibrated thermometer. I found that the 3rd one I bought is faulty - it will be the correct temp for hours/days and then out of the blue it will jump or drop 2-4 degrees and stay in that range for a couple hours until I notice it....so then I calibrate it and eventually it goes back to the correct range so I have to remove the calibration. I am going to ask for a replacement for that one. The other 2 have been great and remain accurate.

That’s pretty amazing. Please don’t mind me saying so.

Hey everybody! I hope you guys don't mind me joining. I don't have any chickens, (they aren't allowed where I live) so I got as close to chickens as I could... Quail! I have Northern Bobwhites and Texas A&Ms. My bobwhites just recently started laying eggs and I thought I would try to incubate some. I am starting incubation either tomorrow or the day after that and I am incubating as many eggs as I get during that time. (so far I have 14) It's gonna be a while before any chicks hatch, but I'll keep you guys posted!

(Here's the eggs so far...)
