May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Good morning checked my 3 eggs last night and now I don't see any veins any more. is that a good thing or a bad thing. I have temp at 27.8 C and can't get humidity up at all past 58 I put warm water in last night and it went up but now its down again any sugguestions on how to get humidity up again would be great.

You goal temperature for most poultry that I'm aware of is 99.5F / 37.5C

The humidity should be fine, once they start hatching the humidity will spike. I usually shoot for 65% once I see pips, you're close.

I also use a sponge in my stubborn incubators.

So I guess I can say I’ve successfully dry hatched quail ✔️

Now I need to try to hatch something else.

Anyone know a good breed of chicken to try? I’m looking for a colored layer.

I’m going to be adding marans soon and I have white leghorn pullets growing. I also think I have light Brahma (hatchery sent wrong chicks so I got a deal at TSC).

Whiting True Blues are a bit flighty but they're incredible layers if you're wanting for egg production. They outperformed my White Leghorns.

out of curiosity, what are you incubating, since most poultry needs temps near 37.5 C or even 38C to be safe?

I need some help. I have something I have never seen before happening in my bator.

I have a foot coming out of my pip instead of a bill. What do I do with this? Should I do something for it.:eek:
Never had a foot out of pip or hole unless it was almost zipped.

i would open the hole a bit more and check to see if there are veins. If not assist it.

I had a quail do this last night it’s entire leg was out I was laughing so hard. It just looked hilarious.

Silly chick! Did you widen the pip hole or did the chick do the that? The membrane looks like a nice white color and not dry or browning but normally when you see them repeatedly pecking at the same spot it's because it's dry and they may be struggling to turn properly...which doesn't make sense with a foot poking out since it's clearly turning. Lol
