May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Yesterday was hatching out 10 eggs, one died in shell after pip, and one hatched on it's own but the navel didn't close, and it got stuck on incubator, and pulled contents. The other 8 all hatched fine. Some barn yard mixes and 2 AC or svarthona she had both, I am not sure what I have. pic soon.

Oh, Hubby is done with my chicken rearing, I will have to set a brooder up outside soon.

Yep just wasn’t sure if I should

They only way to know for sure is by opening the air cell and applying some ointment, coconut oil, or warm water to the membrane. I use a q-tip to apply gently. This will make the membrane translucent so you can see if it still needs to absorb blood vessels.

i opened it up and the vessels were all absorbed. I got it open enough to where it started to skip out into my hand. I put it in the bator and it just flipped out looking all a** over tea kettle while doing it. But he is out of the egg now.

I have 9 more pipped externally right now waiting to see what happens with them as most pipped over night. So we will see how those ones do

Day 29... and no action. I am able to candle one egg towards the outside of my incubator and the air cell has dipped down significantly since lockdown.

But no peeps, no rolling, no pips, no nothing! 😭

The air cell drawing down us a good sign though! That either means they internally pipped or are about to. Day 29 I'm assuming you're hatching ducklings or turkeys maybe?
