May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Hey all,

Just received my hatching eggs from Meyer today. They were packed very well. This is my first ever batch of shipped eggs. And I was super excited to get them in the incubator.
Upon closer inspection I am disappointed however, because they have what I call "bacterial" or "greasy" spotting on them. I was under the impression that this is a bad thing for eggs to have and to not use them for hatching. Meyer CS reached out and was very polite but even with my pictures, seemed to think that it was normal egg coloration? Am I seeing things? I never use my own eggs if they look like this. Here are some examples. They are all like this.

edit: I wasn't writing them to ask for a refund or anything of the sort. Merely, to inform them of the eggshell problems. I understand the inherent risks involved with ordering hatching eggs.

Sorry I haven’t replied lately! For some reason I stop getting alerts for watched threads:he Has anyone else had this problem?
Anyway, my Ayam Cemanis I hatched haven’t been doing well:hmm They’re all really small, and most needed assistance hatching. Three have passed away:hit I’m supplementing them with Vitamins, but it doesn’t seem to help.
Where did you get the eggs?

What temp and humidity were you at throughout your hatch?
I got them from a seller on Craigslist( I know that can be risky), and the temp was 99.5.F- 99.6F throughout incubation. The humidity was a bit high( 50s or so) but I couldn’t get it to go lower. About 20 others hatched fine regardless( different source of eggs) and are still doing well. The weird thing is I hatched a Cemani cross from an egg I got from the same seller, and it hatched fine and is still doing great, so I don’t think it’s a nutritional deficiency. Overall I had an about 90% hatch rate.
Craigslist is not really as sketchy as buying online. If you went to get them, you have better odds than anyone who buys eggs online. Local is always best.

Gotta get just one for fun then!

The people we bought the property from had a Narragansett. He was super friendly and liked to walk around saying high to people when they went to the chicken yard. Then I read how friendly that breed is specifically. We’re new to turkeys though, maybe they’re all like this? Even your dinner turkeys lol
The dinner turkeys are super sweet, but they cannot live very long. Do not get one for a pet... it will just break your heart.

I am not sure what you are seeing either because they look normal to me as well. When you candle and see those dots its pores on the eggs, which all eggs have some just show more than others. Inside the egg, that blob is the yolk. I do not really see much discoloration on the eggs.

Meyers sends out quality hatching eggs and I have seen many people be successful with them. Just give them a shot.

Thanks for saying that because they are sweet but I know they are for the table. My dogs and family are excited to try them. Tomorrow I am butchering 4 cockerels. They attacked my porcelain d'uccle... Stupid jerks

Hucklekree- I just got eggs from Meyer's also, some have spotty- light shine through eggs- like some of yours. But it is a gamble, I am going to write it off. Below are my eggs Unbox them with me...

They had good air cells and no cracks better than I can say about some shipped eggs. No extras sent though.

below the Meyer's and another 12 shipped eggs going in incubator together. (also no extras but all good.

After waiting 12 hrs I am putting them in home made incubator to heat up then going in my farm innovator. Below the home made one. Getting ready to shut lid.
