May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

It's been a long time since I set eggs. Any local store with peeps is selling out each shipment the first day. A friend expressed wanting a few Cream Legbars. Having discovered a small pile I gathered up the mix of Cream Legbar and Reds ( I only have a Cream Legbar rooster) I set them in cartons and collected fresh blue eggs only for the rest of that week. I could not find my Brinsea Octogon 20 ( I fear husband took part to the dump) Ordered a new one. Using a new digital Little Giant incubator 11300 with turner I set the eggs. The temp held well in the new incubator. I had marked the "found" eggs and left the fresh ones alone. when it came time for lock down I kept the marked eggs in the Little Giant and and moved the unmarked to my Octogon 20. Set a wet sponge in each incubator for increased humidith and let her buck so to speak. It's been 48 hours and I have a so, so hatch. I did not candle the eggs so I can't way how many fertile eggs were in the incubator. There are 3 hatched with 7 still "waiting in the Brinsea of the unmarked eggs. The marked eggs in the little Giant have 5 hatched. One is from the brown eggs and four appear to be blue. Not sure yet on the auto sexing. I'm leaving them alone for now. Not too bad for setting up a hatch on the run and questionable eggs.

2 weeks. My hen only hatched one this time. This is her last hatch, she is old and cranky. She broke two eggs, one egg dissapeared, one hatched and died at 19 days, and this was her only surviving chick.
My grandboys named her Abby. I hope she isn't an Abner.
I have two more broodies sitting on 5 each (all barnyard mix) and another hen is thinking about going broody.
I'm considering buying a Harris Farm's Nurture Right 360 as chicks are so hard to find here. I've never used an incubator. Does anyone know if this is a good one to start with?

I have two and liked them greatly. Very easy to use for a beginner incubator. The biggest thing is make sure you watch your humidity.

Hi all!!

This is my first time hatching eggs, and I’m really loving it. Made my own incubator out of a styrofoam cooler, picture frame glass, computer fan, 50 year old lightbulb, and a few scavenged phone chargers.

4 of my 8 assorted eggs have hatchedthe chicks are happy and healthy!!

However one of my eggs had a hairline crack that I sealed with candle wax. Candled on day 16, air cell and shifting chick! Yesterday I noticed a crack around part of the egg and nothing has changed in 24 hours... I’m wondering if I should begin contemplating an assist?

pics are of the eggs at lockdown, and the four who have hatched

Do you think it could have pipped under the wax? I have hatched 2 wax patched eggs in the last month - the first pipped down by the pointy end of the egg, but the 2nd pipped in a normal location.
