May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

So today is day 23. I got 12/29 hatched with 2 more that died during zip. Not sure why. They all hatched on day 20/21.Will do eggtopsy tonight to see what went wrong. I just know it was my old junky incubator. I couldn’t believe I actually got 12 good chicks. Last time I only got 3. Thank goodness I have 2 other good incubators.
Are they from your flock?

Try a different breeder with the same incubator if it’s not your own eggs.

Wonder if putting some type of splint on each leg would work to straighten them. Like a short popsicle stick so she is forced to be on her feet. I would do this but as a last measure if she doesn’t improve with cup therapy.

Are you putting the cup in with the other chicks so that she can hear them and she tries to push herself up over the edge so she can see them?
Well until just now she was in a separate brooder with two of the other chicks who were still getting over hatching so she had company last night. But I can put her in with the other chicks in the cup and see how that works.
Popsicle sticks is a great idea! I’m sure my daughter has some in her craft supplies somewhere...

I think she just needs encouragement somehow to stand on her feet. My quail was like this and I taped it’s two legs together so it stood straight. They were at normal stance when taped together like you would for splayed leg.

The chicks I had with the splay, I did try and hobble, they made so much noise about it, I just let them be. Eventually they were better.

I had more chicks coming, so I put the splays in with the new hatched chicks, then they didn't feel the need to get up and run or feel bad about their legs, because the new chicks all lie down.

Do you have a photo or something that shows what it looks like? Having a hard time visualizing it!🤔❤️

I have a quail with a bent in leg and I need to see how it’s doing. So far all are running like crazy so I don’t think it’s having an issue. It’s all bone so it would have to be broken and pinned. Doubt a quail is worth the much effort... sorry if that sounds mean

Like this but I put the tape at the bend so they couldn’t bend their legs. I took it off at night or once cup therapy was done.
