May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Thank you all for your replies. I'm sorry for the chicks you all have lost that way as well, but it really helps me to know that even if I had noticed in time there was a good chance it wouldnt have helped. Takes the pressure off a bit :)

Trying to enjoy the 6 happy fluffs I have! I am pretty sure I have 4 girls and 2 boys :)

It’s very hard to help a malpositioned chick. There’s a short window to do it and it’s not easy.

Our tiny one passed last night. I’m beating myself up for it but once I got it out of the egg I could see there was no way it would have survived even had I left it in the nest. Little one was trying to escape way too early. It hadn’t even started to absorb the yolk

my chickens are getting so big I took the water bucket out to fill it and came back to four of them stretching their wings on top of the container lol

So sorry. 😕 They're so vulnerable and fragile at this stage. It was always a long shot, and you did all you could possibly have done. :hugs

Sorry for loss of little ones. I’m sure it’s hard to find, but natures way sometimes.

Is this normal to find in the shell after hatch? We had a silver polish hatch around midday yesterday (day 20), but this was left in the shell. She seems fine, but is still under broody mum with 5 other eggs.

It’s just waste from the chick.
