May 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
My broodies have both gotten off the nest twice while I was around. I have now confirmed that there are only five eggs left. That’s okay, I’m sure that whatever happened, they did the right thing. To be honest, I think that the third one that acts so crazy may have stepped on one. She has rejoined the rest of the flock, and as far as I’ve seen, she is not laying in the boxes anymore. She usually wants to be with the other two the last week of incubation. I think it’s time to cull her.
The quail hatch is going alright. I have no idea what is up with the incubator, but hand turning isn’t an issue. I do wish someone had reminded me that I could put them in the other incubator. I literally just now figured that out. :lau

Candled my 44 eggs today... 31 are still in the game. Even though 5 have a ? because I wasn't sure if they are still alive. This year has not been so great... lots of infertile (had to change a rooster in the last minute). And quite a few that didn't make it out of the shell (in comparison to the previous year) Oh well.. either way this is my last hatch. Hopefully it will be better next year.

I am so frustrated today. This is day two of my first hatch. I have been hovering and feeling worried because I have yet to see them turn. They will have been in for 24 hours this afternoon so I turned them by hand a couple of times but then I worried I was letting them get too cool. I know the darn thing turned okay before I put the eggs in but I was unable to make it turn after I put the eggs in. So I did some research and found the correct buttons to push to make it turn and pushed them... and nothing. So I opened it up and examined it. The little metal rod is turning but the plastic tray is not. It is cracked... well shoot. So I turned by hand as long as it was open anyway and called hubby at work to bring me some super glue. Hope it works. I don't want to turn by hand forever. Also, intend to call and get the part replaced. Only had the thing one day. Not a good start.

Is it an Incuview from incubator warehouse?

Well, hubby brought home the super glue to fix the egg turner. It didn't seem to hold as well as I wanted it to. So, I add a very small zip tie to help hold it tight. It seems to be holding. I am crossing my fingers and keeping a close eye on the little eggies. Funny how I don't mind eating the eggs or the full-grown birds but I don't like the idea of bringing babies halfway into the world only to mess up and let them die. For some reason that bothers me. It also really bothers to mess up when dispatching the older birds. I accept death, just not suffering. I feel the weight of responsibility that I must do things right. Thanks to all the experienced for being here to help me along.
