May Hatch-a-long! ~ 6th Annual Cinco de Mayo Hatch-a-long! ~

Congrats!

I just candled my eggs a few minutes ago. I had 2 infertile but the rest(26 of 28) appear to be developing normally. Interesting to me is my only eggs NOT developing were the cleanest and most fresh, having been laid the 14th and 15th of April. My rooster must have been slacking at his job the week leading up to those eggs. The other 11 or so from that hen are developing normally.

If the are indeed infertile they should still be edible right? I put them i the fridge thinking I can give my dog a nice treat if so. The ones that develop and stop or were fertile I never try that because I imagine they could have or did fail due to bacterial contamination.

I really don't know about eggs that have been heated. What day is it for you? I don't know that I would feed them to my dogs. On the other hand, they just dug up my garden and chewed up half a carseat, so maybe I would feed them rotten eggs.

I know everyone has a personal preference on incubators BUT after being so annoyed by the Hova Bator, I bit the bullet and bought the Brinsea Maxi II Advance. I LOooooooove it! You can see my first impression video and I need to do a wrap up review since there seem to be so few around. Super easy to clean and full view---love the hatching mats. The only thing I added was a mini back-up hygrometer for lock-down. I'm sorry that happened to your eggs. It's so hard to be so invested in these babies and then have something awful happen.

Exactly! I love Brinsea products! I just havent bit the bullet yet... I havent seen the one you are using before, I do like how you can see everything! Do you have to hand turn? And how many eggs does that hold?

Mine holds 14 hen eggs and you can buy a smaller turning tray for quail or other eggs. You can buy an Eco, Advance or EX model of it. I got the advance and manage humidity on my own which is pretty easy, but because of my work schedule I need the turner. I also have their brooder plate and I LOOOOOOVE it. I know of people who even get an eco mini and use it as a rescue bator or warming unit of sorts for chicks. What I love most is the 3 year warranty. Also, if you look on places like Amazon they sell them discounted for imperfect packaging---also, they have coupon codes frequently on their Facebook page. I have been really impressed as you can see!!!
