Sequin I love the video, such a precious moment to share!

ihvpower Very pretty chick

I sold 5 pullets yesterday, and then placed 28 eggs from my Light Brahma and Barred Rock hens into the incubator. So these should hatch on June 17th.

Thank you! When I got home from work, I set up her brooder and jumping the gun again, I put her in there. Then I read where you said that the peeping might get the others to come out! LOL She looks healthy and quite adorable. Of course I am referring to her as "she" as I am hoping that positive thoughts will make her that! ;-)

Congrats on your Orps, I LOVE them!

My Fabulous mama is in the dog house this morning. Not Literally, but figuratively. She suffocated one of the chicks. Everyone was good at midnight, this morning one was blue and dead.

Sooo - since one was hatching this morning, I took the one remaining live chick away and put it in a warm brooder in the house. Shortly after the new chick hatched it too went into the brooder in the house. Then I cleared away all the empty shells and collected the rest of the eggs mama was sitting on to candle. I saw movement in at least 3 or 4. Two were completely solid - so maybe the next to hatch? Or maybe they are dead. I am not sure. No new pips from any of the candled eggs. I am fairly certain that not All the remaining eggs(there are 10) will make it, but I am hoping that at the very least, the 3 or 4 I saw that had definite movement will make it through. Grrrr... I am so mad at mama and myself. That was a hard lesson to learn. But I think mama is getting tired. Can't say that I blame her really.

Interesting thing I realized, the last chick to hatch is an SS roo x EE hen cross. It has a pea comb!!! But it hatched out of a brown egg. So doubtful that it will lay a green egg if it is a pullet. Still, how nuts is That?!! I thought for sure it was a SS x Sex-link cross; until I noticed the pea comb. The other chick is certainly a SS x BO cross and is just a beautiful little chick. I'll post pictures when all the hatching is complete. Both chicks are very curious and doing well.

Apparently I was wrong! I woke up at 12:30 this morning to some VERY insistant peeping! I said to myself...NO WAY! I waited a bit and then ran out there. One beautiful baby BCM was sitting there all by her lonesome, drying off. I hope another hatched so she can have a buddy!

One question: I left her in the incubator because I leave for work at 6AM. Will she be okay until I get home at 4 PM this afternoon??

I DO have a pic and will post!

Ok last chance with my polish. Only 2 did anything out of a dozen. One kind of looks like a quiter and the other has a big air cell.

One out of 12? That's fine I'll take it. Sure hope something happens here.

My EEs from my Big EE and BRs are developing, so hopefully the 1st of June will start my good hatches again. I sure hope so cause I just set my Wellies from okiehen and I really want these chicks. I don't thin anything but playing kickball could have damaged this package. She's amazing at wrapping eggs!

There have been so many hatches since I last posted here. So many beautiful chickies have been born. Congrats to all! Don't be afraid to leave the chicks in the incubator for 12 to 24 hrs or so. Their activity & noise encourage the chicks to come out of their eggs too. Also, the chicks seem to do well when left in for a while before moving to the brooder.

Kudos to the great broodies too, that must be such hard work. I imagine that they learn as they go too, & get better as they go.

Happy, happy hatching everyone!

My 1st of 4 just hatched around 7:00 pm tonight. She's a Bantam Salmon Faverolles, as the other 3 eggs are. There's 1 other pipped & 2 more to go. Here's a pic thru the side of my plastic domed incubator.

She is exhausted! lol and very beautiful. Congratulations!

I have a question. I have a one and 1/2 day old. I put her newborn (last night) in the brooder with her this morning and the older chick is pecking at their beaks! Why is she doing this and will she hurt the newbies???

Chickens & chicks are just weird in their approach of interaction. Mother Nature has designed them to be strong & survive, so they often touch each other roughly & with curiousity, in turn it stimulates chicks to "buck up" & get up & go. If the newest ones aren't quite ready to be pushed around, you can put them into a smaller clear plastic container within the brooder. In the smaller container they will still be warm, be encouraged by any others around the brooder moving around & will be safe from over zealous attention; just until they are stronger on their feet. For chickens, like other animals, it's survival of the fittest. They are just so dear to me that I want them all to make it!

Check out page 1, post #1 under *My Brooders. You'll see in the 1st pic what I mean about a smaller container inside the brooder. Just make sure the smaller container also has a warm & cool end in their container so they can regulate the temp for themselves. Have fun with your chicks!

Oh, here it is. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3924713#p3924713 See this also on page 1, post #1, *My Brooders.

For those who have been making inquiries about where to get a glass thermometer to go with the water wiggler or a homemade water wiggler (instructions on page 1, post #1), here's where I got my "liquid in glass thermometer" (it's is accurate, I tested 2 of them against 2 of the Brinsea Spot Check thermometers, all were exactly the same). http://brinsea.com/products/thermo.html

Oh
ya, I've got a total of 2 chicks out now & 2 eggs to go. Just love these Bantam Salmon & Blue Salmon Faverolles. Happy hatching!
