My first chick hatched, but also died!!!! I don't know what happened, except that there was a little of the intestinal tract coming out - all the yolk was absorbed and it was all dried and fluffy.
It was such a beautiful chick too!!!! Mostly yellow with a hint of 'eyeliner' and a hint of red over a base of yellow with a few dark brown spots on its back.
My goose that was broody was on 4 eggs. the other goose was on 5 eggs. First goose hatched 3 babies Sunday. Monday she lefft the nest with the babies and so did the other goose. So, I had 6 eggs that were developing and no mom. Both geese are very faithful moms to the three. I finally, after about 7 hours... (it was warm), brought them in to the incubator. The one from the first goose was cheeping this morning.. now I can hear pecking. no pips yet tho. the other ones are about a week behind. I still have to open the bator to turn the last ones, and it was almost full of quail eggs. so it is either going to have to hatch with the bator being opend or not... have to open it. one of the last eggs was not developing so pitched it. so one trying to hatch, four in a week or so and aobut 65 quail eggs that I have forgotten when I put in. meant to write it down, but forgot that too...lol
OK Today is lock-down. This is my second attempt at hatching BCM's. I candled before I shut them in for the haul. One air sac was ruptured, one had a dark liquidy spot in it and the rest are too dark to see anything except for the air sac. So I'm down to four! Wish me luck!

Oh, did we forget to tell you......... duckies are kinda stinky. Ha! A good way to literally keep co-workers "off your back." Happy hatching!
I've got a Chihuahua that does that too! She used to be a breeder that we bought when she retired at 6 1/2 yrs old. "Pinta" freaks us out with insistant barking at any time to alert us when chickies are hatching, usually while the house is dark, quiet & all are asleep. Your cat is very good, you two must be intune.

Sequin: I came home from work to find a chick in the same condition about 2 hatches ago. Sometimes the cord gets tugged on or the intestons do not retract at the right time; it just happens unfortunatiely. I feel for you. Best wishes on other eggs. Keep us posted.
