May hatch-a-long

12 hatched! Including one that I had snuggled in my bra on the drive home. :) 2 other eggs in the incubator bit I don't think they'll hatch. However this lucky last baby seems to have curled feet. It just hatched moments ago, so I'll let it dry off and get its legs first, then check in about 30 minutes. I have 3 other hatched-today chicks in there with the wee one to support it.

So i have 1 chick in worried about. I'll have to get a picture. It seems smaller then the others. And a swelling on its shoulder. Its like the crop area but a little bit too high.

Adding the picture. I'm going to remove thier food tonight and see if it goes down or not

Hi all!

I've not had the best start with chicks under broodys this year (lots of squashed chicks under a light Sussex hen :() but managed to save two eggs which hatched in the incubator last night/this morning. I only got it on Monday to hatch some Brahma eggs and I'm so glad I had it as back up for these little ones!

She didn't appreciate me trying to get photos of her babies!

I had to up the humidity and turn off the auto-turner in my incubator yesterday for the hatch, so I really hope it doesn't affect the other eggs. I have 6 Brahmas (a mix of frizzle and smooth) and an Ayam Cermani x Indian game egg in there! I'll be candelling them on Monday, so fingers crossed!

Stripey babies are the cutest! I did candle the eggs I had under my broody, the air cells were a pretty textbook size, but I tend to err on the side of caution when candelling and only discard if they are very obviously infertile, I'm always scared I'll throw a viable egg away!
