May hatch-a-long

Yesterday was day 21 for our broody. I had not candled in a week since I moved her into a private pen (rats in coop). She spilled her water and got her shavings wet day 19 orv29. She slowly over the next few days moved her eggs away from the moist shavings.

Temptation got the best of me and I ended up candling yesterday day 22. All 3 eggs were alive and not internally pipped. So I am leaving them be. They are on dry shavings now. I am trying to leave them alone. Sitting here on day 22 not knowing what is happening. . It's killing me. Love watching them hatch in the incubator. It's like the miracle of childbirth!!!

First duckling out, looks like a Silver Swedish.

Day 15 candle today. Tossed 1 out of 19 buckeyes and 12 out of 15 chanteclers. Everyone else is moving happily along in their shells :)

One of my bantams started going broody a few days ago. Today is the first day that she stayed put. I went to a sale today and came home with a mixed dozen of hatching eggs. I'm taking a chance, but have her 2 EE & 2 buff chanteclers. I am going to attempt a staggered hatch in my incubator for the remaining bought eggs. I'll put them in an egg carton when the others go into lockdown and sneak the lid open to turn them. I just hope that the higher humidity doesn't hurt them. 2 EE, 2 buff chantecler & 4 partridge chantecler.

So with my turkey & duck eggs due to go into lockdown tomorrow...this FINALLY arrived.

Currently running empty to try and get the icky plastic smell out and debating whether or not to put the lock down eggs in it. Been having humidity issues in my other bator...
I love my brinsea! I have the 56 with humidity pump and it has been running steady since the middle of feb.....

Popped the chicks that hatched into the brooder last night, decided to try a Brinsea ecoglow instead of a heat lamp this time. Auto-turning all back on now and humidity back to normal.

Candled the incubator eggs and 5 out of the 6 are fertile :) One of the fertile ones has the smallest hairline crack on it so I think I'll try putting some wax over that and hoping for the best! :flThe Ayam cermani/Indian Game egg wasn't fertile, I've tried to hatch a few this year with no luck so maybe the hen just isn't fertile. After this lot I'll try a whole incubator full of her eggs and see if I get any fertile ones!

I've also got 4 eggs under a Light Sussex, I need to try and move her into a crate before they hatch (due on the 29th).
