Well scabbing would deffinatly be a sign of peckingand is probably why she's so nervous about leaving the eggs

The bigger hens will come up to her but she seems to keep them off the nest I went to check on her and she had one of my rirs feathers in her mouth I will get her separated from the others and see if that helps any thanks for your help

So I'm gong to bring my chicks home from kindergarten today. Hatched total is 8 of 9 (origanally 15) all are healthy I had to clean 1 for pasty butt yesterday but it is doing fine today. They have vitamen water in the incubator, and will get feed as soon as we get home. My EE seem to have the best fertility rate so I'm thinking the rooster prefers them. Ended up with 4 lavender/blue and 4 black so I'm guessing 2 out more of my EE hens are already either lavender or blue crosses, but that's still a pretty high ratio. Need to start getting the 11 feed store chicks into the main coop if temps remain high I can possibly move the 6 first hatch to the outside pen next week. Next will be figuring how to seperate all the new cockerels until rehoming or processing...

So, day 7 candled 20 out of 37. 8 looked good (2 White Dorking good, 2 nothing, 2 iffy).
Several (5 or 6) looked iffy. Could see beginnings of life for sure but might have been early deaths, detached air pockets on a couple as well.
If I'm not sure of life by day 10 out they will go. All 37 will be candled on Saturday or Sunday for sure.
Some of mine are fairly dark shells so not super easy be sure on.

Yass Ive been collecting eggs the last few days and will hopefully start incubating them soon

Was he hurt badly?

He bruised his kidney, lacerated his liver, Broke 5 ribs, had a compound fracture of his right femur and broke his left femur and knee in 3 places. So it was pretty bad. He's doing well though. Thanks for asking!

Sounds like everyone hatches are doing well. My first set goes on lock down Friday. The other batch on next Thursday.
