May hatch-a-long

Good luck hope they hatch soon

Thanks, but it isn't to be. I decided to go ahead and open the eggs.

I tried a safety hole and one broke in my hands. No odor to it but an awful lot of liquid. The other two were positioned wrong. If I had tried the safety hole earlier maybe they would have had a chance.

Kind of disappointing but so be it. 77% is a descent hatch rate. After all I was using a still air styrofoam incubator.

I am happy that 10 hatched.

Here is the one that hatched yesterday.

aww that chick is so cute im sorry to hear about your eggs

Thanks, I think so too.

That one is about 3 days younger than the others. So right now it is in the brooder but separated from the others.

It seems to be getting around really well. So, tonight I will turn heat lamp out. Then once things quiet down remove the divider.

One thing I noticed with my bantam eggs in this hatch. One was slightly longer than the other 2. While the 2 shorter ones were a little bigger around.

Maybe that means nothing but it is a detail.

:celebrate there is a chick under broody yay :eek:i touched the chick just a little rub on the head the hen will not leave the chick if i touch it right
No. We picked up our chicks soon after they hatched with no problem. Just make sure you keep them under her. Also, be very careful when looking for them. They really hide in her feathers. My hen can be standing and they will still be in her feathers, lol. I read another post where someone accidentally crushed a chick because they were looking for them and picked up the hen not realizing the chick was hiding in her wing. I'm happy you finally got one.... :clap
