May Hatch-a-Long!

I have about 3 dozen eggs due on the 29th. Almost all of them looking good!
I bought 6 mille fleur Sabelpoot bantam eggs though and only one of them has made it to day 15 :(

I have 6 working laying boxes right now and about 6 or 7 broodies.
The number is growing by the day.
Debating whether to let one of them actually hatch. The problem is all my birds are mixed together right now and I would only have mutt eggs for them. I can't decide.

I know how you feel about only one making it...I have 6 Partridge Brahma eggs and when I candled them on day 7 only one looked viable. Half are under a broody hen and the others are in the incubator (all shipped eggs)...I left them as I'm new to candling and thought it better to be safe than sorry. I don't plan to candle them again until lock down day at which time I'll discard them if they indeed aren't viable. I also have 5 Olive Eggers that I can't candle so I'll have to wait till hatch day to see if any of them hatch. The waiting is killing me ;) In the meantime I'll entertain myself by following everyone else's hatches!!

Your babies and hens are beautiful!!! I'm interested to hear how your shipped eggs do. All of mine are shipped...so, I'm not expecting much. At least that is what I keep telling myself, trying to prevent myself from being too disappointed. :(:fl
my broody cochin was sitting on shipped cochin eggs. I ordered 12 and they were shipped express from just 200km away (125 miles) One was cracked when it arrived so she was setting on 11 eggs. 3 got broken during the 21 days, and on day 22 I saw 2 babies. the other 6 eggs are still there and she is sitting on them still. today is day 23. I don't know if 2 out of 12 is a good percentage for shipped cochin eggs or not as this is my first time. The eggs were sent to me from the breeder where I bought my cochin and orpingtons last year.

I've read that I shouldn't expect better than a 50% hatch rate from shipped eggs and that is usually the best case scenario and that is is usually much less than that. I also have 12 Isbar and 13 Easter Eggers in the incubator...all shipped eggs...we'll see how it turns out. The PB's and Olive Eggers will go in lock down on 5/30. The others will go in lock down on 6/5.

fingers crossed for you and a successful hatch! And remember if only 1 or 2 hatch, it's better than none! We have no idea if the shipping box was dropped or thrown around, even though it says "live fertile eggs" on the box. And I'm pleased because it has made my broody cochin happy. It was her first time being broody! I think she's making out to be a good mama ♥ and I'm still hoping that the other eggs will hatch - it has been known to happen! :)

Just wanted to drop in and post some pic of fresh hatches. 3 of 3 in the Bator. And 11 under broody muscovy. The pic in the black dish is how I found them yesterday when I went to count lol

Pecky, my sister in law's broody hen is why I ordered the eggs so like your Cochin, she is a happy camper now that she has some eggs under her! I'll be ecstatic if I get a couple to hatch!!! I knew when I ordered them that I might end up with none due to rough handling...so, I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!:fl
