May Hatch-a-Long!

I thought when I joined this hatch along all wa going well, UNTIL this morning I turned the eggs in their carton and they spilled out everywhere cracking more than half the eggs! I put nail polish on the cracks and taped some cloth on badly cracked ones. None of the badly cracked ones were oozing, but a hairline crack on another was. I'm not sure what to do and I'm scared that I've killed all my chicks!
Oh No! What a bummer. Hopefully they will be ok. I thought for sure most of mine had died due to incubator malfunction but they're are going strong still.
Sending good hatch vibes!

Day 10 and just finished candling the 81 eggs. Ended up pulling a total of 10 eggs (just over 12% of eggs set) due to blood ring or clears. Half the eggs (5) pulled were from one breeder pen where there are 7 hens for the one black copper marans cock. I figured I probably jumped the gun a bit and set early, he hadn't made it around to all the hens yet. Now, just have to get that larger brooder finished, LOL.

Congrats to all the others with chicks or ducklings on the ground! :thumbsup

I know how you feel about only one making it...I have 6 Partridge Brahma eggs and when I candled them on day 7 only one looked viable. Half are under a broody hen and the others are in the incubator (all shipped eggs)...I left them as I'm new to candling and thought it better to be safe than sorry. I don't plan to candle them again until lock down day at which time I'll discard them if they indeed aren't viable. I also have 5 Olive Eggers that I can't candle so I'll have to wait till hatch day to see if any of them hatch. The waiting is killing me ;) In the meantime I'll entertain myself by following everyone else's hatches!!

For shipped eggs anything alive is good. My first batch of shipped eggs had air cells shaped like saddles that slipped up and down and around the eggs. 5 of 13 made it.

The eggs I have currently though weren't shipped, so 1/6 is less than I expected!

I hope you get a fluffy healthy partridge brahma pullet :)

Still have one in the incubator. Will post better pic after its out

Ok so good news on my hatch! I got a surprise delivery from my breeder!!! A dozen and a half new eggs to replace the poor babs that cracked. After the hatching attempts I've done it's still hard to not make attachments. I fixed the problem I had with my turner before and it's working well now-still cautious though. The half dozen that survived the cracking is due June third and the new batch is due June thirteenth so I guess I'm a little over the May hatch a long LOL
