May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
And we have chicks!!! The first two hatched within 5 minutes of each other. Another is very close and two other pips so far. I had to break the lockdown rules and take the two chicks out because they were bulldozing all over the incubator and knocking into all the other eggs. The lid was open for about 5 seconds and the humidity (which climbed to 85% after they hatched only dropped back to 70%, so I think I'm OK.

Congrats!!!

I set 34 eggs on April 16th. I candled them after 5 days and all but 3 was fertile leaving me 31. On May 6th they started hatching, and by the end of the day on the 7th I had 29 chicks from 31 eggs. I never dream I would have that high of a hatch percentage. This was my first attempt at hatching chicks. I think I might do it again sometime.

Congratulations!!

I lost another duckling before she hatched. I don't know what's going on.. That's 4 ducklings that have died during lockdown and one that died right before.
On the bright side, I have 8 hatched ducklings and 9 that have pipped, and 1 zipping!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this membrane looks really unhealthy and dry.. It's been like this for 12 hours with no progress.. Should I assist??

I re-candled one of my Marans eggs this evening, one that could possibly be developing. At Day 14 - how big of a mass should I be seeing? It looks like a "chick mass" rather than a "yolk mass" because that spot was very dark and the rest of the egg was light-ish. However, it seemed small, and it was up near the pointy end of the egg. I couldn't be sure if I saw any veins.

Hatching pictures are helpful, but Marans are different than all my other eggs so far. I'm never sure if I'm seeing a chick or a yolk, veins or speckles, etc. Trying to be hopeful about this egg when most of the other eggs look bad.

I'm on day 10 with my eggs and just finished candling for the second time. I threw out two. One looks like an early quitter, the other looks to recently have died. Most of my eggs are polish, and I am loving candling all these white eggs! They are soo easy to see! All 22 of the shipped eggs are alive and well!! Started with 40 in the bator. Threw out the two tonight plus 1 on day 7. I hope things keep going smoothly with this hatch! Got 24 eggs in the mail today and they are a mess! 3 were cracked and every single air cell is a hot mess!
