May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
Congrats Deb, Cynthia, and everyone hatching! I had a pip, zip and hatch of one Red Sex-Link last night late. No other pips. It is "inbetween" in coloring, and I am not even sure with nothing to compare it to, but think its a girl. This is good, because I am not allowed to keep roosters here because of zoning codes.

Congratulations! They have rooster collars..I am going to try one. It doesn't zap them..like you might think when you hear the name. It keeps the rooster from taking in a deep enough breath to make the loud noise. I hear that it works better on some than others. I want a rooster so bad..I want to try.

yeah!

you can do it chickies!

I woke up this morning and my thermometer read 102 in my forced air... omg! my laser thermometer on the eggs read 104! AHHH I am freaking out.. just candled them and they were all alive.. don't understand the spike.. hoping they are all ok and that it wasn't too long..

my other incubator the still air, has some cold spots now since I added 10 new eggs. In hindsight I wish I had warmed the new eggs up closer to 95ish before adding them but that is easier said than done...

I have a fan bator. How did it get so high? Did the eggs feel too warm? Maybe your thermometer is reading wrong? But then, you have two to go by from the sounds of it. Is this a home made bator? Glad the babies are ok, they must be further along.
I also have still airs. I have some in right now. I just change them around in there once a day. Then they get the different spots. :D
Good luck, let us know how those toasty babies are doing.

I really don't know :( I never ever touch the knob. I did turn it down though. I was thinking maybe because I haven't opened it much, and then having it open for the d14 candle it cooled down, then when it re-heated it over heated? or the eggs are putting out their own heat now? argh I hope they are okay..

in my still air I move them around, too. I think that one got cooled down from adding more eggs in. opposite issues in both bators lol. well I do like to keep it interesting that's for sure!

Most people say to leave the chick in the bator to dry off and fluff up... For me personally, I don't. I waited with my first hatch and waited, like 7-9 hours and still wet and slimy. Each time a chick was hatched, the humidity raised through the roof... But, I didn't want to put rice or popcorn in there for fear of pulling it down too much. So, for ME.... I wait until a couple/few hours, when they can walk by themselves without falling over every 2 seconds. If They can hold their heads up and look around and walk good and strong. If they are too wobbly and unsteady and can't hold their heads up, then I wait a bit longer. I have the brooder box warmed and ready to go at the first sign of a pip. So, after that chick is out of the shell. Looking good and strong and walking all over the place and rolling the eggs around, I pull him/her out and directly into the brooder box. They usually fluff out in less than 30 minutes and look that much nicer. They seem to do better for me as well.

AGAIN, THIS IS ME!!! Not the law, or the rule, or even the most popular thought. I just found that this works for me. I have food and water there for them from the moment they are in the box, but typically, they don't touch the stuff until the following day. Although I did have 1 chick that hatched and was in the box about 2 hours and I found him slurping up water and testing out the food. After that, each new baby that was brought to the brooder box, he/she tended to run to and inspect and then encourage to follow to the water... It was so cute to watch this 6 hour old baby teaching the little ones what to do.

Good Luck!

Boo Boo alert...48 hrs..not 24..or, if they are dry and fluffy..just don't want them in there too long, they will need water before food.

Thank you! It's been a solid 24 hours and the two that are out are nice and fluffy now. I'll probably pull them here in a few. I do have one that's been trying to get out now for 24 hours. It has about a third of the egg broken. Will pulling these two out hurt that one? I should mention it's raining cats and dogs here, so the humidity is super high.

(I copy/pasted this from a thread that I started. Hopefully I'll get help on here..)

Hey there! I need some advice! My Welsh Harlequin and Welsh/Buff x ducks are on day 31 of incubation. 3 of them hatched early this morning, about 5 have pipped, 2 zipping, and 8 that still haven't pipped!

I'm really worried, is there something I should do to help?? I have poked "safety holes" in the eggs that haven't pipped yet, but It looks like some haven't even internally pipped!

3 of them died yesterday due to being backwards in the egg.. could that be the problem with the ones who haven't internally pipped yet? I still saw movement last night, so I know their alive... When should I intervene?? Thanks in advance for any advice!

P.S. I already know how to preform an assisted hatch successfully, I've had to do quite a few (unfortunately).
