May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
Candled last night, but no idea what to look for. They all have dark yolk blobs. One I thimk I saw a teeny bit of veining. Should the blobs float/move? Or should they stay in one spot? I think one had a ring, but couldn't tell for sure, so kept it. It had only been 48 hours. . .

I'm probably not even going to candle mine until day 9 or so, then maybe day 17 before lock down. I'm still researching how to do it as I have no idea what to look for, etc.

hey all! jumping in this May hatch a long since I just set 41 eggs today!

they are barnyard mixes, plus some mottled javas, EEs, cornishX and two bantam calico cochins.. their eggs are sooo tiny! I sure hope they hatch, those 2 in particular

I also threw in 3 marans x blrw pullet eggs, my girl has been laying for about a month, but her eggs are still very small. not sure if they're fertile or not... we will see!

Chicken eggs hatch in 21. Duck eggs hatch in 28.

If you can work on the mite problem now I would. Mites are bad for all chickens, adults and chicks. Clean your coop well, and make sure your hens have a good spot for dust bathing. Wood ash is particularly effective. I take the ash from our woodstove and occasionally spread it around in their coop. I've also heard diatomaceous earth is safe and effective. Good luck!

Thanks! I never knew wood ash would help prevent mites. I have a wood stove so that will work out great! Thanks again!:D

have already hatched out turkeys, chickens, quail, pigeons and pheasants, will have more to hatch in may. Also have 2 chickens sitting, 4 turkeys sitting and 2 pigeons sitting. All these should hatch in may .

While grinning really widely, I'm so EGGcited! I saw veins! :weee Such a surprise since last hatch where all infertile!! :yess: Sorry, Im just super happy!!!
:weee :jumpy

After a very poor first hatch (started with 47 eggs, only got 5 chicks in the end) with a Little Giant still air incubator I got a new incubator (Brinsea Forced Air, Auto Everything) and will be trying again in May. I isolated my rooster with just the hens I want eggs from, since none of them were fertilized last time, and I'm hoping to collect EE eggs from my flock and get a dozen EE/Wyandotte/Buff Orpington eggs from a friends flock and get it started next week.
