May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
Mine are set to hatch the 13, 17 silkie eggs and 1 other. Hope to see some development this weekend! I am only turning 2xs a day. I've realized I can't use the auto turner because all it does is carry the eggs (if that makes sense)....don't think it was meant for such lightweight eggs.
Days I can, I am turning 3xs, but time isn't on my side!

if you can turn more often early in incubation, it's more important early on than in the later stages. probably the first 7-10 days turning is most important :)

I'd like to participate in the May Hatch-a-Long as well :) I purchased some chicken and turkey eggs and they are due to hatch on May 2nd. I have 3 incubators running: Little Giant with fan and autoturner with 42 eggs in it, Brinsea with autoturner with 9 turkeys eggs and 6 chicken eggs. I also have an older Little Giant incubator still air no turner with 2 cracked chicken eggs from shipping. I decided not to do the usual thing and throw the eggs away but instead I used unscented wax to fix the cracks on the top on both of them and when I candle them last week there is something inside. Total I have 50 chicken and 9 turkey eggs :)
I candled the eggs last night and I have a total of 33 chicken eggs and 6 turkey eggs. I have 15 Americaunas, 8 Marans, 5 Silkies, 5 Orpington and 6 Red Bourbon turkeys. One of the cracked eggs has a chick inside I think!

9 Duck eggs look good.
22 turkey eggs look good.
Another 7 eggs are questionable.

Maybe I will re-candle them on Monday........

Hatch buddies! Lol

All of my eggs have veining :D

I set seven eggs April 18th, 2014, in my first ever incubator (Brinsea mini advance). Most are red sex links, one buff comet, and blue black orphingtons. I ordered hatchery eggs which apparently had a rough transit; the other three eggs were sourced locally. Hatch day here should be around May 9th. I am glad to join in the hatch-a-long, and have enjoyed reading posts in this thread.

I edited the photo so it's a bit easier to see veins :)

Day 4

Veins are MUCH easier to see with your own eyes

Apparently I can't do math.

11 ducks eggs look good to DH and myself, 22 turkey eggs look good and we have 7 questionable eggs. This brings us to the correct number of eggs 40.

Set 8 eggs under my broody bantam on 4/19. Due to hatch 5/10. They are Easter Eggers, Sex Links (won't come out that way) and a couple mystery brown eggs from my flock.

Will candle the eggs 4/27 pm since she's in a dog crate in the coop and don't want to disturb her too much.

The thermometer was consistently reading 99-100 before adding the eggs so I'm hesitant to adjust the temperature, but I would have expected it to be back there after 12 hours. I don't like having the carton in there but these are shipped eggs so I don't have a better idea yet.

Before bed I rearranged the cartons for better airflow and repositioned the digital thermometer, and this morning it was back to 99-100. It had been at 97. This morning I started turning by putting a textbook under one side. Humidity had been running around 60% (surprising for Denver, though we got a good rain two or three nights ago) and it was 63% when I came home today so I removed the water and turned them.

It's been about 33 hours now. Can't these things just hatch already?

I have 3 Rouen duck eggs set to hatch May 13 going in my grandmothers old Little Giant still air incubator. So far, all three eggs have some very nice blood vessels going and I love seeing the teeny embryos move. Grandma had great success hatching ducks in that old machine, so I've been following my grandpa's directions as to what he remembers. I've had chickens for 10 years now and have been trying to raise ducklings for the past 3. I always end up with drakes, so I was excited to finally get a hen last year. Can't believe I haven't tried this sooner and hope I get a nice Rouen hen or two.
