May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
I set my eggs yesterday, 14 Wheaton Ameraucana. I ended up washing 4 of them in a mild bleach solution to get the broken egg off. I marked those eggs. So this will be an experiment! I'll compare the washed eggs to unwashed. I think I'm going to turn on my turner today. I usually wait until day 5 on shipped eggs, but I did a lot of reading yesterday about what happens inside the egg when you turn, and now I think earlier is better.

Last year I read research that showed that shipped eggs had better hatch rates if you didn't start turning until between day 3-5. I read too much research and get so confused!!! Maybe I'll start turning tomorrow??

Ready, set, GO!

I love my Brinsea 20 Octagon Adv. I'm glad I bought mine when there was a sale!

Candled my eggs last night: all 7 are doing wonderfully!!! I have been misting them everyday. Any one have any thoughts on the subject?? Is it necessary for duck eggs??

My duck eggs were shipped. I allowed them to sit out for 6 hours before putting them in the bator so they would come up to room temp. I then placed them in the turner and have had them in there since April 10th. I just candled them all last night and all 7 are growing fine and look healthy. I would put them in the turner if I were you.

Mahen good to have you .With a Brinsea i think you will have a good hatch.Seems people who use them do .Wish i had one!!Oh and be forewarned..hatching is VERY ADDICTING!!

Thanks, Roxanne. Yeah, about the addiction, is weighing the same incubating egg every day hoping for a good weight loss (even though your gram scale isn't very sensitive)...is that some early indicator in the addiction? I think I was hooked when I hit "enter" ordering the Brinsea.

It's day 18 (very late on day 18) for my 22 Welsh Harlequin duck eggs! I set 24 and removed one on day 7 (clear) and on day 10 (early death). I haven't lost any others and I hope it stays that way! I have found homes for all of them once they hatch (I'm keep 4 for myself).
They're looking great! All of them look just as strong as this one :D

I also candled my 7 Wild Canada Geese eggs and it looks like only 3 of the 7 are fertile! What a bummer. Hopefully they all make it to hatch :)

I may candle again tonight....not ready for another hectic work week! Will get my brooder box stuff ready next weekend....guess that's when I will find out how much of my stuff my husband got rid of.....I really shouldn't need to buy new heat lamps and bulbs for every batch of chicks!
