I'm building another incubator so that I can get more eggs! Yippee! I love my hatch addiction :)

Im in for May ! 8 Leghorn eggs ( mixed california whites and brown leghorn ) and 2 from are Easter egger ( just wanna see what her mixed off spring will look like ) . Cant wait Just got 6 Polish chicks, 1 Royal Palm Turkey and 6 Fawn and White Runner Ducks as well cant wait to breed these guys .
love the head fluff!

I set 18 Birchen Maran eggs at 4 pm today...they won't start to turn until tomorrow though...I want them to have 1 more day to settle from the trip here. They were pretty dark (and fresh) so I really couldn't see much in regards to air cells. But if anything is shaken or scrambled, I hope sitting still since yesterday and not turning til tomorrow will help them heal...
anyways, hatch day should be ~ May 16th.

I also have eggs planned to hatch May 16th! Candled yesterday, just two of my lightest eggs, and saw some veining.

I haven't candled yet...they are dark brown eggs, so maybe in a few nights...they are always hard to see into anyways. I even bought a new super powerful 300 ETA: 3000! lumens little light, but it didn't do a great job...maybe the battery needs to be charges though becsuse the 1st time I used it, that little thing got so hot and did work. I forgot that the battery is rechargeable. duh.....

Good to know you already see veins though!!! Good Luck! What kind are you hatching?

Did a quick candle of my quail eggs on day 5. Picked out the lightest-colored 5 and I could see vascularization on all 5 so I quit while I was ahead and put them all back in the incubator.

I'm hatching a number of mixes, plus some Silkies, BCM and Ameraucanas - so I have brown, white, green, blue, and dark brown eggs, which can be tough to candle. I wasn't really expecting to candle until Day 7, but I had trouble waiting. So I picked up my 2 lightest white bantam eggs on Day 4 and found development. I could see nothing but the shadow of the yolk in my palest blue egg (flashlight not powerful enough, but maybe the Ams aren't developing? I hope that's not the case...).

My flashlight is not even good enough to see into an Ameraucana egg, it seems. So I'm not going to try candling the dark brown eggs at all. I bought them as hatching eggs so I won't be tossing any until Day 28 anyway. And I am going to wait until Day 14 to look at a couple more because I'm afraid I'm handling them too much!

Good luck with your hatch!

Have you tried your cell phone flashlight? Works for me

I have a small LED flashlight. It may be a case of finding batteries that aren't nearly dead, and candling too early. I'll have to hunt around for batteries and wait another 5 days or so...

Concerned. I have a circulated model Hovabator. The thermometer in the incubator has stayed at 100 all day (except for drops during manual turning). I have a very accurate temperature meter with a wire (borrowing it) that I used at the beginning of the hatch to calibrate the temperature, which fluctuates.

I have not used the wire to test today. Just tried it, and it heated up to a max of 101.7! Seems to be staying at around the 99.7 - 100.5 level but fluctuates up and down constantly as the fan cycles on and off. Example - it just turned off, decreased to 100.3, then the fan turned on again, temp increased to 101.4, fan turned off. It could have been running this hot all day.

Should I turn it down and go to bed, risking that it could get too low all night? Or leave it?

I want to join for May! Tomorrow I'm setting at least 17 bantam Polish Frizzles and 5 bantam buff laced Polish eggs that came in the mail this morning, and probably some of my barnyard mix! I just completed my first ever hatch right before Easter in a still air LG with an auto turner, and now I have 8 precious little mutts! I put a fan on the LG and ordered a Brinsea 20 Advance that will hopefully be in next week! I'm going to go ahead and set these polish in the LG and probably move them to the Brinsea when it gets here and I get it regulated!
