May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
So, I have 40 eggs in my LG with a newly installed fan (and more experience). 22 of which are shipped polish frizzle eggs that I really would like to see a decent hatch from. My new Brinsea 20 Advance will be here today. I set the eggs in the LG on April 30th and originally intended to move the polish frizzles to the Brinsea. I'm actually having pretty decent success with keeping the temp right at 99.5 in the LG. I'm doing a dry run this time and my humidity had been 30-35%. Now I'm toying with the idea of leaving all 40 of the eggs in the LG and getting 20 more for the new bator! I'm pretty sure I'm an addict

I'm on Day 9, almost Day 10. I just did a quick candling session and tried 4 eggs. For most eggs I candle, I see the air cell and then a dark mass at the large end of the egg. For my light eggs (like one of my bantam mixes) I definitely saw some veins around the mass area. For my blue, green, brown, and Marans eggs - I just see the mass. Hoping this is good. Once I get new flashlight batteries, I should be able to tell better.

Two days ago, I could see the eye and discern movement in a white Silkie egg I candled. These white bantam eggs are nearly transparent...

It does seem like the blue eggs are darker since I candled them last. I've never tried candling a Marans before - I just did one. Is it possible to see a "mass" at this point in incubation?

I also have some marans eggs in my incubator, I'm not sure if they're fertile or not (young rooster). I am on day 11, I candled for day 10 yesterday, and I couldn't see a mass or any veins at all through the dark shell. I am thinking my 3 marans are not fertile. if you can see a mass, I think that's good, cause I could not see a thing !

Lockdown should be day 18 or 19? My humidity has not been stable! Outside the bator we've had a bunch of 70% + days. It never did rain!! Anyhow humidity has been 45 - 60 in bator. Should I add sponges at lockdown? I will be removing the cardboard egg cartons at lockdown, might that affect humidity? I think I read they suck up humidity.

Today is day 27 of the Welsh Harlequin duck eggs... Still nothing! No internal or external pips yet. I'm getting so anxious! Hurry up little ducklings!

I candled my eggs today and had a butterfinger moment :(

I dropped my favorite marans egg and it got a small crack in it. Since I couldn't seal it I decided to open it and take a look. Twins: (

My first hatch is due May 16!
I was up at 3am checking on it and it was perfect. My husband checked it at 7am.
Then when I woke up at 7:30, the temp dropped from 99 to 95!? Ack! Why?
It wasnt low for very long ...so hopefully everyone is ok. wonder why it did that.

This happens a lot with my Still air incubator. I think they will be fine. Doesn't seem to affect my duck eggs. 8 days to go and all 3 still are doing well

wow really! was your roo young, too? my rooster and the pullet are the same age, 6 months. she has been laying for almost 4 weeks, so the eggs have grown in size but are still pullet sized ya know. I really hope they develop! it will be a cross with my blrw male, barnyard mix. at the least it will be a cool meat bird to raise!

cmon babies!!
goose eggs how cool! I was out with DH recently and I saw the prettiest goose drinking water from a puddle, ahh it was adorable you know the way they drink. I told him it was a cute goose, he just laughed and told me I had to stick to chickens!!

wish someone here would go broody.. ha ha even if I don't get eggs I would love to let a hen raise her own. they are still young pullets though. sigh... maybe next season ;)

I thought I was finished hatching for the year, but I couldn't help myself....just set 22 bantam cochin eggs that were shipped. Both sets arrived this morning! 14 BBS (possible frizzles), 4 black, and 4 lemon blue
