May hatch along :)

Was waiting on the little cream egg to hatch and this little guy surprised me lol

We make it a game. The day before hatch day, we write our guesses down and the person who gets it right chooses what's for supper for a week. It's funny how one can seem so close then be the last to hatch lol

I'm having the worst luck hatching guineas. They do fine until lock down. They'll internally pip then die. I had one hatch but it died 24 hours later. It had its guts coming out if it's navel.

You might want to ask more advice on one of the guinea threads from someone who has lots more experience hatching. I know that guinea eggs have harder shells and keets can have trouble getting out if you feed lay pellet or oyster shell because it makes the shells too hard. Also, they need more humidity at the right time. I always let my guineas set their own eggs, but they are only able to hatch them if the rain falls at the right time. I believe that's why they make their nest on the ground in the moist grass. The alternative, however, would be to overrun with guinea fowl because they are such prolific layers here! Hope you can find answers.
Maybe here????

I posted there about the keet being weak. No one ever replied and the keet dyed. I'm going to have to do some research.

I don't know anything about keet...maybe they would respond to poly-vi-sol (no iron) childrens vitamins...that's what i use for my weak chicks. Most weak chicks have died after hours and hours and days and days of nursing.

I had one quail pipped at the wrong end for 24 hrs not moving so I carefully with sterilized tweezers hatched it. As soon as it started chirping the hatch started. Almost half of them are out in 20 mins! It's crazy! Almost makes me feel like incubating a couple hundred eggs just to watch them all hatch at once

I had heard that about a good quail hatch...just like popcorn! But, that they are like flying ninja's

That's crazy about quail! i had thought about getting some, but not sure it would be worth it. I only had the one little chick hatch...one more looked really good, but never pipped. I just got 4 week old light brahma chicks from a friend so she has company now at least! They are soooo sweet! I'm so excited because I have wanted brahmas forever! Another friend gave me 2, 3 month old black jersey giant pullets, and I got the call today that my 6 guinea keets are in at the feed store, so I need to go get those! :) Squee! I've got a Turkey Egg and a Rouen Duck Egg in the Incubator right now....candled both...duck egg is doing really well...can't see in the turkey egg that well, but it looks like a maybe. i'm really hoping this turkey egg hatches, but the odds aren't good. Both are due in June though. I'm done with hatching for a bit then. :)
