May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

CRiISIS IN COSTA RICA ,,,,,,, well the Broodys are moving along well we we have five for nine and a EE zipper under broody #1 BUT sometime yesterday one of the kids collecting eggs inadvertently took the clutch of my Silkie who was down from the hen house for food and water apparently ,,,,,at 7 am the wife went down to check on broody #1 and seen the traumatized behavior of the lil Silkie and immediately came in and said to me Houston we have problem lol so we took the carton into the bator room for emergency candling and quickly found here half developed clutch among the 18 eggs in the carton we set them in our second bator that is about half full for emergency warm up as I candle the now cool eggs I was surprised to see slow movement in a few I think they were reacting to the warmth of the light , I have not seen this before it was interesting to see movement as far as I can tell they were cooled for about 16 hours so we will see in a day or two what the out come will be with her lil clutch in the ER bator lol my wife was heartbroken to discover this but I can hardly blame the kids as I have over 40 hens laying daily so it's kinda a daily eggathon here I feel bad for the lil hen she is such a good lil mom and was due to hatch around the 16-17 th but there are two more Broodys and over 60 in the bators so we will still be able to give her a few to brood to make her happy ,,,,,, lol

Awwwwwwwwwwww poor Momma broody. At least you have some more eggs to give her. I didnt realize you had so many hens laying. All 3 kids are here for the weekend, so my appearance will be minimal.

Sounds like chicks popping out all over! I am hoping my hatch next week goes better! But with those crazy air cells I highly doubt it! I can see many assists in my future. For those who dont have it, get some sav a chick. I am sure it was what brought my little Fidel/Fifi around.
Ear is feeling much better, but now everything sounds like I an stuck under water! So flippin irritating!!!

well the day started out as usual here at Buena Vista Farm the morning shuffle turning into utter cohos as it tends to do once in a while but what would life be like with out a lil spice ,,,,, its all good we are at six cheepers and we had to move mom and the newbies to there own space as the 12x12 nest box she commandeered for the last 21 days was getting a lil congested,,,,, here,s a few pics of the proud mom ,and her lil hellions,,,,,

If a egg has a crack will it hatch?
the leghorn (A6) has a crack, if I cover the crack will it hatch?
here is a picture, the black is the embryo (I edited the photo) and the crack is right above the A6

yes it will but you need to cover cracks early in the incubation period clear nail hardener sally jenson or Henson or what ever its called has worked for us in the past and clear paraffin wax will also work but if the shell has been broken since the start of incubation the possibility of bacteria intrusion are high ,,,,,,, but try it nothing you have nothing to loose it cant get any more broke ,,,
