Thanks everyone. I had read every assisted hatch post I could find lol. Just wasn't sure these guys needed it. The first chick in question finally made it out. He just wanted to hang out in his egg a while. :). The chick with the leg out on the other hand did require assistance. He had pipped midway of the egg and turns out he was upside down with feet toward the air sac. This chick is quite the little contortionist. I'm not sure how he managed to pip where he did but he would have never gotten out on his on.

Nope, I had never done an assisted hatch. This is actually my first ever hatch at all so it was a bit dicey to even consider it but one I got a really good look and realized what had happened I figured he wasn't going to live and better to die trying. He had kicked a large hole in the side and was nearly dry. I spent years doing sharp debriedment of human wounds so I am pretty comfortable with how steady my hand is around blood vessels. The good news is that so far he is doing well. Time will tell but so far so good. The chick that took so long does appear a bit weaker than the rest as does the first to hatch. Only had one egg that hasn't pipped and I think it was a casualty of Thursday's temp snafu so I don't expect it to.

Thanks again for all the help. Hope everyone else's hatches are drama free!

Update.Ok with school let out kids wanna shop duck run and dealings on goat (FREEBIE) and talks of guineas (Going) and turkey's (Coming) I get home and settle the ducks in, feed water settle chickens down and check bator. 2 little BAs staring at me. Last check 1/2 hr ago was 2 chicks 7-8 pips about same rollie pollies and chirps everywhere. HEHE I got my bird fix..... until hatch is over then its on again. WOW addiction feels so good right about now LOL.
Gonna keep an eye on the coops tonight with new extra chirping and quacking outside. Left a light on for the younger ducks and the babies I just moved out to make room for the new babies.

And to top it off my wafer thermostat (That I didn't need day after I ordered it!) came today. Soooooooooo....... I can make that other cooler into BIG GREEN HATCHING MACHINE. Which is smaller than the styro I made earlier this week but sounds manlier. SO in a week, or so if I get busy I will be up to an able capacity of around 200 eggs setting and hatching give or take, not figuring in any drawers that I not sure I'll make but prolly will and possably double that.... sigh high hopes and pipe dreams.

Anyway back to check bator and then browse thru some other post. Check back later.

PS Grats on all the new babies everyone.
. That's a good deal rooster ! Good luck with the mean green chick machine

:celebrate as long as she waits for the other 8 to hatch you are golden!  You are hatching the smart way by incubating with natural heat.  I would love to see a broody with her chicks...hoping that some of these ones that I'm hatching will make good moms in the future too.
she will she is one of the best brooders we have this is her fifth or sixth batch of chicks

Gosh, this thread is fluid! We're hatching ALOT of beautiful chicks around the world this month, aren't we?! would love to know how many we all hatched and what breeds, just for fun. We should try to make sum-up posts in the end of the month!
We are only on day 2 waiting on these eggs to hatch, why does it feel like an eternity already?!

I can't wait for day 7 to do our first candling!!

Good Luck to everyone with there hatches!! :) So exciting, this is only my second attempt at hatching and I see many more in the future!!
Hahah, I totally recognize myself. It's so eggciting! How many eggs did you set and what breeds?
I just candled my 28 day 7's and took out 4 that were definite bloodrings. Marked 10 as developing, 7 as looks clear 5 watch and 2 (plus 2 of the developing ones) as possible bloodrings. So despite to 108 temp spike on day 3, for shipped eggs I don't think that's too bad... Well... Actually only 22 were shipped... And 3 of the 4 i pulled were from that group...my other 5 eggs are developing or watch...

.
That's not bad at all, especially for the shipped eggs! They really can turn out to be alot more durable than we think. a friend of mine got a shipped batch were 3 of the eggs were frozen solid to the point where they had cracked open, and she put them in the incubator anyways - she got 4 chicks out of 20 set eggs! Not a good rate, but I was sure she'd get none.
Can I join? My broody's eggs are due to hatch on the first of June, but I have a feeling that they're going to hatch earlier.
Welcome! How many eggs and what breed/mix? Let's hope they hatch earlier, that's always a nice suprise. Rarely happens to me though, haha

I think the one with it's leg out needs help.
Not sure about how many hours.............based on where you live.
Have you assisted a hatch before?
Agreed, the feet are usually the last to come out so sticking a foot out is definitely a cry for help. Lol. I saw the later post that the chicken got assisted succesfully, good job!

I looked in the incubator last night and to my suprise there were 4 chicks in it! They weren't supposed to hatch until saturday, but oh well now I have little chickies 2 days sooner!

Sorry, didnt mean to take off on you. I was up till 1am last night, woke up with a horrible earache and had my 3 yr old grandson all day. Then had to drive 3 hrs round trip to pick up 2 more grands 10 yr old girl 8 yr old boy. I feel like CRAP!!!!!

Fidel/Fifi is doing AWESOME. I went to the feed store and bought a "mixed bantam" as a friend. The chick is eating and drinking now too. The little bantam has got it really moving around!
That really sucks, you should get some antibiotics for that ear! Our 1-year-old boy was born with a cleft lip and palate, so he's struggling alot with earaches. Antibiotics and pain reliever given as eardrops has really helped out alot! Go see your doctor :) Hope your grandchildren behave nicely for the weekend!
2 unzipped, 10 more pipped...nice way to wake up in the morning!
Woohoo - keep us posted!
