May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

wow. just found eleven eggs under my coop. somehow my chickens were getting under there and laying and I just thought that they weren't laying at all! I am going to have block all of that off now. Why don't they just lay in the nesting box. I have two. One is filled with a broody and that's the only one they will lay in! The other nesting box might as well not exist!
put some golf balls in the other box or fake eggs or a few of the ones you found they are programed to lay clutches of eggs they will use the box if they think a other bird is using it

Hello all,

So we just had a very successful hatch for (our second attempt) with all 6 Buff Orpington hatched

It has been such a great experience and we can't wait to be first time chicken owners.

I do have one question though...Our first hatched about 2pm yesterday and hasn't fluffled completley up yet. It is very wet and crowed in the incubator with all six, but none are dry even after some have been hatched for 28 hours. What is everyones opinions on when to take them out?
Here is a pic!

I will post our hatching video soon! Mooved me to tears-such a great experience!!!!!

And a BIG THANKS to everyone who gave me valuable advice during stressful times

What city/town in Norway? I have a lot of relatives from there (my great grandparents were born there) but I can't recall the city right now. But I do know my husband's family came from Eggen, Norway. Are you familiar with it by chance?
I live in the middle of nowhere. haha. 1,5 hours away from Oslo, in the middle of the woods - a village called Veme. All farms and cows. There is a place called Eggen, but it's about a 6hour drive from here so pretty far. Norways greatest soccer coach is from there :)

I have had better luck receiving my eggs if you have the seller put "Live embryos" and "Hatching eggs" all over the box in red sharpie. The box looks better than when they don't write anything on there. The first box of eggs I got was mangled. It broke my heart

the last and first shippment of eggs did say live embryos on and it was like the mail people could care less. and i had themnshopped to my sisters house because i disnt have a paypal at the time and she knew when to wxpect them. She did see them for a whole day because they sat they way off to the aode of the porch. Keep in mind it was still chilling here in indiana when this happened. My box was kinda beat up with one broken egg and one cracked. I was upswt cause it could havve been a baby chick!

Well shipped eggs at BEST, you could expect a 50% hatch. Then you add in the rough handling of our wonderful USPS and that drops the rate, and then the normal infertile egg and you drop your hatch rate down to 10% at best. After these hatches I will never hatch shipped eggs again. I have 24 in the bator (shipped eggs) and at day 4 all I can see is 2 fertile. Very poor quality pourous eggs. It will be a miracle if any of these eggs hatch! I feel your pain!

Most likely mille fleur d'uccles I don't know of any other mille fleur bantams that have feathered feet.

These are suppose to be mille fleur & black oegbs but looks like the seller got a self blue & a white in there too. They are sooo tiny & cute.

Well I saw this form and had to join plus a friend told me I should. I just set my very first batch of eggs Friday night. :) I am super excited I candled them yesterday and I have blood veins in all of them I think. 2 of them are really dark green eggs and its kinda hard to see if they have veins. I am hoping they do. Its really hard for me not to just sit there all day candling them my two young daughters are really excited as well. I have the temp set at 99-100 and the humidity is about 55-60% I dont have an egg turner so I am doing it myself and I wash my hands every time before I turn them. I am hoping it all turns out well and most of them hatch :D
