May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Hello all,

So we just had a very successful hatch for (our second attempt) with all 6 Buff Orpington hatched

It has been such a great experience and we can't wait to be first time chicken owners.

I do have one question though...Our first hatched about 2pm yesterday and hasn't fluffled completley up yet. It is very wet and crowed in the incubator with all six, but none are dry even after some have been hatched for 28 hours. What is everyones opinions on when to take them out?
Here is a pic!

I will post our hatching video soon! Mooved me to tears-such a great experience!!!!!

And a BIG THANKS to everyone who gave me valuable advice during stressful times

I would put them in a box lined with paper towels under a light. Let them dry out. They won't dry out in that tropical dome. Just make sure to keep them warm and out of drafts until they are fully fluffy.

If everyone has hatched you need to open that bator, get the humidity DOWN, get those eggs shells out and give them some room. When you get the room and humidity down you will see them start to dry. They should have fluffed in a couple hours!

Due date today for my 5 eggs so far no signs of anything getting ready to hatch.
Give them more time..............................

How has your temp and humidity been??????????
My last hatch did not start till day 23...............Guess they did not read the hatching instructions.................

I really think mother nature just has fun messing with us.................
But seriously, let us know if we can help

Ive taken wet chicks out before, put them in the brooder in my room and they dried out faster than the ones in the bator did. So you should be good to take the guys out

I hope that my BBS Ameraucana eggs I ordered do that good. Last eggs I ordered  1 out of 7 hatched, but they came all the way from California and I am in Indiana. If only the people that are delivering the box would take greater care of it. The eggs are I just ordered are coming from Virginia so it is closer hopeful they do better. Good Luck with all your eggs!
I have had better luck receiving my eggs if you have the seller put "Live embryos" and "Hatching eggs" all over the box in red sharpie. The box looks better than when they don't write anything on there. The first box of eggs I got was mangled. It broke my heart

I'm almost in your time zone, just one hour difference between Ireland and Norway :) A dark spot is a good sign! Try again in a few days and see if you can see any veining.

Where in Ireland are you located? I have a fostermom that moved there three years ago. She's in Ballina/Killaloe :)

What city/town in Norway? I have a lot of relatives from there (my great grandparents were born there) but I can't recall the city right now. But I do know my husband's family came from Eggen, Norway. Are you familiar with it by chance?
