Welcome back. We saved your chair......................Howdy all! Well it only took me 2 weeks to recover from my last failed (0%) hatch, I said I would not hatch again and here I am.....I made some alterations to the incubator and reviewed my notes and decided to give quail a go this time. I am setting 25 Golden Coturnix Quail in 2-3 days depending on the post office. I also found a local source so I am tempted to grab another dozen if I can coordinate the timing right....
Everyone was right, It is addicting!
I understand. I wish they were more gentle with our packages.the last and first shippment of eggs did say live embryos on and it was like the mail people could care less. and i had themnshopped to my sisters house because i disnt have a paypal at the time and she knew when to wxpect them. She did see them for a whole day because they sat they way off to the aode of the porch. Keep in mind it was still chilling here in indiana when this happened. My box was kinda beat up with one broken egg and one cracked. I was upswt cause it could havve been a baby chick!
Oh no I am so sorry. I hope you get some that will hatchWell shipped eggs at BEST, you could expect a 50% hatch. Then you add in the rough handling of our wonderful USPS and that drops the rate, and then the normal infertile egg and you drop your hatch rate down to 10% at best. After these hatches I will never hatch shipped eggs again. I have 24 in the bator (shipped eggs) and at day 4 all I can see is 2 fertile. Very poor quality pourous eggs. It will be a miracle if any of these eggs hatch! I feel your pain!
We are almost hatch buddies. I am on lockdown now. Then set some on the 10th and then on the 12th on Mother's Day and my daughters birthday. Then when this hatch finishes I will set 8 more!Friday is HATCH DAY!! Okay - just a little excited here. My seven hens have been on doubletime and this has been a busy month - I started with 26 eggs in the bator. All 26 of those look great and should hatch Friday (give or take a day). In the mean time, I decided to add 13 more eggs to the bator on May 9th for a staggered hatch date of May 30th. I just candled the eggs and saw development in all 13 - they are growing!! I also had six eggs that I was saving to put under another hen that showed broody signs and then I guess she changed her mind. Those six went in the bator early yesterday morning (May 13th). Then last night when I went to check on my chickens I had a hen in a nest that was acting questionable - I went back to check on her this morning and she is definately broody - hissing, pecking, and puffing up at any movement. I don't expect her to give up so easily as she is a cochin bantam. So we will see - by tomorrow she may earn herself a half dozen eggs too!! BUSY - BUSY - BUSY!!e
Omg so stinking cute!
Welcome back! And good luck!Howdy all! ******! I just lost another chick, on day 7 this one too. This is getting annoying. If they're gonna die on me they might as well do it while still in the shell! I have no idea what was wrong with them, no symptoms at all, just found them dead on day 7. These were both the inside-brooded chicks... They had access to food and water, and space to move away from the heatlamp. This one was lying dead on his back in the foodtray...
