May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Well it has been a long disappointing day. I have to leave at 4am to take hubby to the airport. Then not sure what I will do tomorrow. Hopefully not spend all day messing with an incubator!
Why is it so much harder to leave the incubator alone during lockdown
hide.gif
? I do not know why it is harder, but it IS.

May is a busy month!!! I am incubating for the first time! I have two incubators going and due to what I have in them I am going to have to do some swapping around for lock down etc.

Placed 15 mutt chickens in the incubator from my fiance's family. half were fresh and half were in the fridge for eating purposes but I thought, why not try to hatch some! Out of 15 eggs placed, all 15 are developing!! Hatch date is May 25th!!! I feel like a nervous wreck!.

I also have 8 Saxony duck eggs, one call duck egg, and two guinea eggs cooking but they wont hatch until June....What was I thinking??!

Thinking? Thinking of how much fun it is hatching not where they are all going to go. Lol

Well I candled over 10 dozen eggs today and only a dozen were clear. Ahhhh. I also put another dozen in today. Lol

My next hatch day is may 26th. Then may 31st then June 2nd and then June 8th. Whew.

Guess that will keep me busy here on my lil farm and my germ free bubble( as my doctors like to call it)

No need to go to town when I have everything I need here. Right. Well until it is time to shop for more clothes and some food. Lol

I love my lil farm. Like dorthy says there's no place like home

quick update.
But first....congratulations to those with new hatches and thank you for the pictures...............Being aware of jnmannings problems, I should not complain about anything.
But I will. I'm tired..........Ended up opening the incubator.Had a chick flat stuck to the shell.
had to wash it under warm water to get it unstuck.
Would never have made it out on it's own..................also helped a little one stuck between the egg cartons on it's back.
Now I am worried sick about shrink wrap so am going to pull another out that has been zipped for hours and is screaming it's little head off.
Have two zipped, two pipped.............
The shipped Buffs are hatching OK but do not seem thrifty.. Lost one , just very weak and another has a leg going back.............
I have given everyone in the brooder infant vitamins................The ones in the brooder seem to be getting better..............
Anyway, it is going to be another late night..........
Got the temp fixed...........That's about it..

Thanks for listening.......

Congrats ... I was thinking of intervening too but think I'm going to wait another day. I've got 3 trying their darnest to zip out!
Hope the rest do fine on their own

I am having a little stress. I am doing a staggered hatch and have 6 eggs just starting day 19. I wanted to do a candle of them before locking them down. I was taking my time and after about 5 minutes I realized I already have a pip and the others have internally pipped. I rushed around to quickly get humidity up but now i am worried my humidity has been too low. I have humidity at 80% and I'm worried about how that will affect the eggs only on day 13.

Wow! Those are some wonky air cells, but I have faith in your ability to save them because I've seen your assisted hatch videos

.
Thankyou! I hope I'll be able to save them, but they need to pip internally by themselves first. Plus I'm going away to visit a friend 6 hours away from here, hatch day is 23d in the evening, and I won't be home until 24th in the morning....But if they pip internally so they have air they'll probably be just about ready to be assisted when I get home. Preferrably I'll get home to a bunch of hatched chicks ;)

Well, I made it to lockdown day yesterday! I had a real hard time candling these dark eggs, and really couldn't tell if they were developing, so I am so excited today to see an egg rocking and I'm pretty sure I heard chirps!

I have been checking the windows on the bator waaay too much for day 19, but I can't help it I am ready for my new babies to hatch!!!
That's awesome! Congrats! Just stay patient and they'll hatch soon enough!

1000 glads wow it will look like a city park next spring, lol well I dont know if it is obsessive but I sure do enjoy my birds and hatching them out. I turn my free range flock out about six in the am and I can sit and watch them jump into the daily routine and run out to gleen the best bugs off the wet grass the groups break up and stake their claim I can hear the cackling from the hen house up the hill and walk by the incubators on my way for another cup a Joe just knowing there is a new bunch coming to join in the fun ,,,,,obsessive ?? Life is good
Definitely sounds like the perfect life. I love watching my girls too, they're fascinating and peaceful as they scratch and peck their way around our farm. And they look HILARIOUS when they run, lol.

Aw, sorry about your bad day. Keep an eye on your hatching peeps now, and if they need help I'm sure you can do it. I had one hatching without me noticing until he was out way before lockdown, the humidity was at 30-40 and he hatched just fine on his own. Try not to worry too much, but keep a good eye on them :)

You can keep the humidity very low after the hatch, and that'll probably make up for the high humidity for this day. Worked for me :)

Awwww thanks for worrying about me, and you can call me Jacq! I am well into plans for a cabinet incubator. Tired of these table tops styrofoam and crazy up down temps. And not enough room! So how do things look this morning???

That is why we stagger hatches in 2 different incubators! One for incubating and one for hatching. Then you pull a move like I did and one hatch is late and the one behind it is catching it!!! Get your humidity down to around 60% ....80% is way too high unless you live in the desert.
