May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I just put 4 olandsk dwarfs & 1 english orpington in lockdown!

Same here. I put 9 sizzles in lockdown this morning. Not real hopeful anything will hatch as these silkies are very delicate and I have horrible air cells.

We are on day 20!!! i saw three eggs rocking last night! I am having a hard time keeping the humidity up tho. I moved them to the LG bator, and i have lids of water under the screen with a rag for wicking, and i have the trays filled AND I have sponges on the screen..and at least once a day I look and they are dry!!! come on! I hate to open the bator, but I do quickly and add 100 deg water to it... ugh....

tomorrow is the big day, hopefully!.. I wish we had a web cam... although I would be better off to take the day off of work that to sit here staring at it all day!

I checked each of the eggs before I put them into lock down and this was the hardest time I've had looking into eggs! I could barely see anything even the eggs I had previously marked as for sure being developing chicks! I'm going to be so bummed if none hatch and so will Noah. The 30th will make 21 days so keeping my fingers crossed.
Wondering how early have you guys seen movement from the eggs like rocking or heard peeping? With our last we started hearing peeping and even seeing a little rocking the day before, I'm sort of hoping for SOMETHING by tonight, but I know it's still a little early. Since I've only got 10 in there I decided this time I won't open the bator to let any chicks out unless its been 24hours, I know I shrink wrapped some by opening the bator to soon and to often with so many chicks hatching.

I'm reading the thread and trying to keep up just really busy! :)

. What you are probably seeing are fully developed chicks the last few days brown eggs will be very hard to pass light as the liquid in the eggs is at a min and the chick is filling the entire egg so at this stage I am going to say you have fully developed chicks in the ones that look like dark blobs if you sit in the bator room you should start to hear internal pipers any time from day 19 to 20 if all was correct during incubation and on time good luck to you both !

The oes is not going to hatch again this year! Sorry but it is really upsetting when things don;t go well.

The wee one seems to be fine running about the place. Home wrecking already! We are going to put her into the brooder as soon as we can but Dh is making sure the temp stays ok in the box. - He is going to use the old incubator as a brood box and just keep lowering the temp it has a red bulb in it and the other two chicks used that last time.

The sad news is that we eggtopsied the rest today and :
Out of the 6 eggs.
1 live late hatch day24. Needed help.
2 fully formed full term dead chicks
3 none starters clears nothing but yolk. ( But not slow scrambled this time!)

So what went soooooo wrong??????

we will be needing to buy a playmate. We intend to do that soon if this one gathers more strength. I have a jam jar lid in the bator and have put her beak into it a few times. She was not impressed and as soon as I turned my back she prompty put the sponge into it!
I bought some chick feed today it is for babies up to 8 weeks so hope it will be fine.
I think she must have used a lot of what remained of her yolk in the shell. It was just a shriveled mustard colour nothing in it when she was hatched out. As for red blood veins there were only those on the top of her head where the foot was stuck - none of the other veins in the membrane bled at all . The other dead chicks had NO blood at all.

I really want to keep her alive. DH is now calling it Eggbert? I said Eggberta? The temp was reading 41 when I got home ???? What is happening to these temp gages and everything???? I opened the lid and let the heat out asap - she just looked at me - "like What are you doing to my heat source???? "
Oes -

well oes I myself and I'm sure quite a few others are going to miss you in the hatch threads I really enjoyed helping you along to a lil fluff butt from the eggs you did not order and just showed up in the post, as for brooding eggburt I would give him a small playmate asap and add some sav a chick or equivalent to the water keep the brooder @ 100 for 8 days and see where the wind blows the lil fuzz but as far as the the other eggs sounds like a 50% development rate which is on par with shipped eggs clears are infertile and out of your control eggburt has the luck of the Irish for sure keep us posted

i am glad to hear you couldnt see through them! I couldnt either and my eggs are brown. it was just an air sac and dark,... so hopefully we both will be hatching chicks this week! last night i noticed 3 of them move, just a little and no peeping yet, hopefully today there is a little more action out of them!

Good luck!

well i got five hatch out of eleven one that i had to help. the other six nothing yet but when candle on lockdown looked like something in them. i guess ill take out the chicks and wait and see what happens with the last six.
