May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

u and chickinlittle are off to the swap sat in the am are you not ?

We are going to the swap Sat morn so hopefully jnj has pips before she leaves! Or maybe not... Might be a stressful day either way... Pips or not yep, stress. :(
I should be getting pips today on my 10 Choc/mauve Silkied Ams today. Got up this morning to find clocks flashing so power went out sometime last night. Bators are ok though. Phew! I've had enough issues with these eggs I don't need more!! Temp has been low and humidity is finally steady in the 60's. i kind of expect a late hatch due to temp but that's ok if I get at least 1!

Should have listed to my friend that said 'make sure you know what you're doing with the bators before you go out and buy expensive eggs!' That's hard to swallow when you sink money into eggs and everything is lost. :/

talk about timing ,,,, post the results of the candle and air cell condition later after your finished and have them resting curious to know how they did in shipment
one bantom plish came crushed but the other six were ok and four tolbunt polish and ten coronation sussex were ok. so i put them in my turner away from the bator and unplug with four of my own. conected the bator so it is on point when i put them in tommorrow

. Man more bunts ? U hear that jac ? I wish you all the luck in the world with them I have never hatched any thing polish but from what I know from friends that have they are like trying to hatch fine lead crystal ! How were the air cells did you mark them ? If you had a leaker it sounds like they had a bumpy ride !

LOL..how did you know I was thinking fish tank? It really does look like a fish tank.

And that's good, a 100W bulb..looks bigger. That's photos for you. A bat? How fun would that be? They are great to have around to eat those pesty little bugs outside in the summer. We have them start buzzing around in the summer just as it starts getting dark. Weaving back and forth getting mosquito's and nats..whatever is flying around there at night.

Ohhh - Yeap I did tell a lie! Checked with DH and he says it is not a 100 wt bulb can;t exactly remember what he said it was but he said it is the recomended one for that size tub and well he does all the man stuff! Like getting chicks from shells! lol - I don't think he has any intentions of freezing or cooking his babies now.

The funny thing is I thought the adopted chick would be stronger but yesterday it was far weaker than our own. It had a busy day I guess and would only have been hatched 24 hrs I guess. So it has been a very busy time for the little one. Moving home and all that and the big adventure in mummy's shopping bag in the car! Yeah had to grab some stuff on the way home so it ended up wrapped in a cleaning cloth and left in the bottom of my shopping bag. We parked in the sun so that the car was warm! It was still a bit on the cold side when we got back! I had to cuddle it to warm it up. Then yesterday it really didn't move from the heat lamp in the Bator. IT was set at 99.5-100 for the hatch as I had not turned it down since our baby was hatched. But the brooder is set at 91-98 as you get closer to the bulb. So it is a tad cooler but the new chick didn't like moving from under it. While ours was running about the place like a mad thing exploring the new digs! Now today they can both get up on the lego bench and chase eachother about. The new chick is a bit more unsteady on its feet than ours. How can that be after all the issues with that darn leg being stuck to the back of the poor critters head! When it was hatched that foot was a wee bit misshapen but it is now perfect and the chick demonstrates this much by stretching it out for us to see! s/he is hopping about the place playing games fine. ( Though those legs are a wee bit on the lanky side for a hen???ummmm????) They have both managed to empty the feeder twice, water not soo much but both know where it is and they have pood everywhere! Darn

smells like a chicken coop in there! After all my cleaning! Honestly I should definately keep their deposit on this rental!

They are lovely and doing well. Much stronger today!

. I know how you feel cl I used Broodys for a long time and had good luck with them then one of my boys built a bator in his FFA class and entered a 4h hatching and brooding project that same year by fair time we had hatched over 250 birds out of more than 600 eggs we sourced from different places for me the failed hatches in the start were hard to swallow but nothing like the look on my sons face when we had to toss load after load the first year was tough but the second was better and better by his graduation he completed in every poultry project in the 4h manual compeated in numerous fairs and shows and had me over run with chickens I can thank him for my hatching addiction and a lil bit of blame on his AG teacher lol
