we need to know if it is isolated to a specific line of birds could be genetic if there has been many generations of line breeding ??
Yes, they are all shipped eggs. This is my 3rd hatch. First hatch gave me 5 out of 45. Second hatch I got 7 out of 40 (2 died the first day though.) I chalk those rates due to not having a fan in the incubator, since the only ones that hatched were located ONLY in the top left corner, and of course my inexperience. Have added a fan, but I fear these current eggs were already screwed up before the fan was installed. Mostly I think it has to do with the last 2 group of egg shipments having been nightmares. Lots of smashed eggs, lots of ooey gooey all over the place. Lots of delayed shipments, plus I may have waited too long to set this batch, as one shipment was very late and I didn't want to do a staggered hatch.WOW are these shipped eggs? I am on day 20 also. I only have 3 left out of 9. I got my fingers crossed for you!![]()
. Well we need a lil more info on the type of bird I know in my own case that sucsessive line breeding as I have been forced to do here because of lack of stock to breed to has caused me some fertility issues along with other problems in my flock of new Hampshires I will be introducing new genetics to my line if my current hatch goes well with the hope of improving my current line it takes time and much effort because of my location it's trickyGood point but if he said many breeders have this issue my thought is it's not breed specific. But what do I know... I'm on my second round of hatching so I am a baby at this! Hope it is breed specific because I want good hatches!!
I have a chick! I have a chick! When broody got off her nest I peeked in and had one pipped. Within 5 minutes chick was out! I had to hurry her back up to get back on. I can't believe we got to see it hatch being in a broody nest. First hatch ever! Three more to go with no signs of pipping.

Well, crud. Now down to 6 eggs left. Tomorrow is day 21. I really REALLY do not think any are still viable. They just don't feel right. So glad others are having great success this month, though. That is encouraging. I'll figure this out sooner or later!Yes, they are all shipped eggs. This is my 3rd hatch. First hatch gave me 5 out of 45. I have another batch set for lockdown on May 23 I think. Also lots of smashed and scrambled, so I will be surprised if I have a good hatch rate with those either, although they have been in with a fan for airflow since the beginning.
Hatching is not turning out to be my favorite thing. Love it when they hatch, but geez, the disappointment is huge. Too much stress for this gal.
check out my pictures, i have a diagram of my incubator. easter eggers, lavender orpingtons, buff orpington over rhode island red, and buff orpington over black australorpe.BigT88
Glad to have a Memorial Day hatch buddy. 42 is a lot of eggs! What kind are they? I have araucana crosses, a marans(dont know what kind),golden comets and ???I cant wait to see!!
Thanks! She's fluffing up now, not as much as the others though. Letting her stay in the bator overnight before taking her to the brooder. My broodies won't accept new chicks anymore, so these are growing up in a brooder I've set up in the cellar...If it was up to me I'd fill the entire house with chickens, but my parents for some reason don't like the supersonic never-ending chicken-peeping 24 hours a day. I don't understand, lol.she will probably fluff out mel do you leave them in the bator or put them directly into a brooder ? the bator at 70% may cause her to stay a lil damp,,,,, how many eggs do you have your broody BO,s working on ?
I want cows too! Our farm is a little too small though, not enough land to pasture more than our two horses and the chickens. It's growing alot sloeThis is Day 20, nothing going on in the bator. I have eggs arriving today and I have to move the cows to the other farm. We added 7 new heifers yesterday, so they are still pretty noisey and unsettled. Pastures still arent coming back as fast as I would like though!
Wow, only 9 left out of so many eggs? What happened?Today is Day 20. 9 left out of 40-ish. I don't hold out a lot of hope, simply because the remaining ones are only remaining because they are too dark to see into to determine viability. Having trouble with humidity this go-around, can't seem to get it up over 60%. I think because with the last hatch the weather was cooler, so our house furnace was still on and with the incubator in the bath with the door closed, it really made a nice sauna atmosphere. It could also be because we installed a fan in the bator, too. At any rate, I will probably fall over in a dead faint if one of these hatches. Black Tailed Buff Marans and Cuckoo Marans, with one White Plume egg also.
Still excited about the possibilities. If they don't smell yet, then not giving up!
