May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I talked with a local breeder yesterday and got some interesting info. Seems a lot of breeders here are having low hatch issues. The man I talked to has been breeding and showing for 25+ yrs and hatched 70 out of 300 on his last hatch and said other long time breeders here are getting like results. I'd been holding on to a few eggs in the bator that I thought were clear but was not 100% sure. After talking with him, I came home and candled and ended up tossing 8 eggs - 7 clear, 1 blood ring.

That leaves me 27 out of 45 on day 13. Pretty good veining and movement in the rest...keeping my fingers crossed. At this rate, I'll be happy if anything makes it!

Did the breeder say what he thought might be causing the low rates? My thought is the crazy weather?? But what do I know! Ooo. Need to check the farmers almanac... ;)

Today is Day 20. 9 left out of 40-ish. I don't hold out a lot of hope, simply because the remaining ones are only remaining because they are too dark to see into to determine viability. Having trouble with humidity this go-around, can't seem to get it up over 60%. I think because with the last hatch the weather was cooler, so our house furnace was still on and with the incubator in the bath with the door closed, it really made a nice sauna atmosphere. It could also be because we installed a fan in the bator, too. At any rate, I will probably fall over in a dead faint if one of these hatches. Black Tailed Buff Marans and Cuckoo Marans, with one White Plume egg also.

Still excited about the possibilities. If they don't smell yet, then not giving up!
. Keep the faith
