May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

hey jn its D day up there today aint it ? pip updates ?

This is Day 20, nothing going on in the bator. I have eggs arriving today and I have to move the cows to the other farm. We added 7 new heifers yesterday, so they are still pretty noisey and unsettled. Pastures still arent coming back as fast as I would like though!

I got my first purebred Buff Orpington chick from my own flock today! It's rather sticki even though the humidity was 70%, dunno if it'll fluff up. The inner membrane was dried onto the chick. Removed most of it, so hope it'll fluff up like all the others. I can't believe how much bigger it is than the bantie mix chicks! I'm really eggcited about this chick.

I have about 5 more buff orp chicks due to hatch during this month and adding more as long as my girls are laying and there's space in the bator. I really hope there are some girls hatching this year, only 2/6 BO chicks turned out to be girls last season... With the other two hens gone broody, means we have to buy our eggs... All of our own eggs are used as hatching eggs so we can have some more laying chickens next year. With the chicken math we should be fine, right? Haha

Doing the happy chicken hatch dance!!!

Today is Day 20. 9 left out of 40-ish. I don't hold out a lot of hope, simply because the remaining ones are only remaining because they are too dark to see into to determine viability. Having trouble with humidity this go-around, can't seem to get it up over 60%. I think because with the last hatch the weather was cooler, so our house furnace was still on and with the incubator in the bath with the door closed, it really made a nice sauna atmosphere. It could also be because we installed a fan in the bator, too. At any rate, I will probably fall over in a dead faint if one of these hatches. Black Tailed Buff Marans and Cuckoo Marans, with one White Plume egg also.

Still excited about the possibilities. If they don't smell yet, then not giving up!

I'll be putting some Cochin eggs in hopefully tomorrow! :) They are out for delivery even though he seller wrote on the box to hold and it's raining and nasty out, keep your fingers crossed they make it ok! We live in the country so these eggs are being transported in whoever's vehicle so I'm not sure if they will have a smooth ride or not. I'm going to let them rest over night. Supposed to be Blue, Black and Splash <3!
