May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Yes, they are all shipped eggs. This is my 3rd hatch. First hatch gave me 5 out of 45. Second hatch I got 7 out of 40 (2 died the first day though.) I chalk those rates due to not having a fan in the incubator, since the only ones that hatched were located ONLY in the top left corner, and of course my inexperience. Have added a fan, but I fear these current eggs were already screwed up before the fan was installed. Mostly I think it has to do with the last 2 group of egg shipments having been nightmares. Lots of smashed eggs, lots of ooey gooey all over the place. Lots of delayed shipments, plus I may have waited too long to set this batch, as one shipment was very late and I didn't want to do a staggered hatch.

I have another batch set for lockdown on May 23 I think. Also lots of smashed and scrambled, so I will be surprised if I have a good hatch rate with those either, although they have been in with a fan for airflow since the beginning.

Hatching is not turning out to be my favorite thing. Love it when they hatch, but geez, the disappointment is huge. Too much stress for this gal.

I can so relate to that!!!!!

Oes - sorry your having a hard time of it.

I'm happy to Have my bovine days behind me

I love the grazing months. Not so much the rest...lol We have 175 acres on one farm, then 90 acres of pastures on an adjoining farm. I have 13 pastures I rotate them through. They know the schedule by heart. When they hear the 4 wheeler coming they head to the appropriate gate....lol We keep a bull with them year round. Which also means calving year round. But to have hormone free grass fed beef to eat is worth it.

Here are my newest fluffy butts. Most of these are mixed breed blue layers with a couple of my farm mutts mixed in. I set a total of 18 eggs. I had 14 at lockdown and 3 did not hatch. 13 of those set were shipped. So pretty awesome results.

I have not had much time to get on here and post lately with the kids' school schedules and my own crazy schedule. Of course today being my only day home the wind is blowing like mad and I have one kid not feeling too well. Sheesh!
