May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Thanks! She's fluffing up now, not as much as the others though. Letting her stay in the bator overnight before taking her to the brooder. My broodies won't accept new chicks anymore, so these are growing up in a brooder I've set up in the cellar...If it was up to me I'd fill the entire house with chickens, but my parents for some reason don't like the supersonic never-ending chicken-peeping 24 hours a day. I don't understand, lol.

I don't have any broody BO's yet this year, they're all still laying - knock on wood cause I'm expecting them to go pancakeflat any second now! My two broodies atm, a bantam silkie and a bantam cochin mix are brooding 5 chicks together. Those are all bantam mixes, I only incubated them cause I thought the eggs was from one of the young buff orps. I'd love to see my facial expression when the first black legfeathered chick crawled out and I realized I had another 4 of those eggs in the bator

I have some shipped hedemora eggs from a swedish breeder due on the 23d (15 left out of 20 now, expecting more to die off as days go by), no more hatchlings until then, but after that I'll be doing staggered BO'hatches for the rest of the summer. I'm going in for some major surgery in three weeks though, so the hatching season will be a bit at risk if I'm not back on my feet to collect hatching eggs and stuff into the bator soon after lol. My mom is terrifyed of being in charge when it comes to incubation

I want cows too! Our farm is a little too small though, not enough land to pasture more than our two horses and the chickens. It's growing alot sloe
Wow, only 9 left out of so many eggs? What happened?

Hope you get something out of those who are left though. There's always a chance!

Actually down to 6 now. I was able to see into several of the Marans and they were empty. Down the drain they went. They were shipped eggs that arrived very damaged for the most part. Plus I had a temp spike pretty high 2 different days. Have installed fans now, but I think too late for these.

Here are my newest fluffy butts. Most of these are mixed breed blue layers with a couple of my farm mutts mixed in. I set a total of 18 eggs. I had 14 at lockdown and 3 did not hatch. 13 of those set were shipped. So pretty awesome results.

I have not had much time to get on here and post lately with the kids' school schedules and my own crazy schedule. Of course today being my only day home the wind is blowing like mad and I have one kid not feeling too well. Sheesh!

Those are awesome results on shipped eggs! Hope I am as lucky!

Hildy is sitting on silver and coronation Sussex as well as a couple of Swedish flowers.
. Coronation is what I'm after they are wonderful birds I have lights in the bator now and out of 18 I hope to get a trio for foundation stock I love the Sussex breed I tryed to locate coronation eggs within a six hour drive of Ohio my last trip up but could only find the lights but they are from blue ribbon stock so I'm hoping for the best . no shipping I picked them up from the breeder and flew them down my self

Well despite everything the bator is behaving again>? Humidity is finally down to 45% and Temp holding fast at 37-37.5 so why the massive hike in Temp to 110?????? I am hoping that the thermomiter was faulty????? Anyhow we are moving along in days so I will be able to candle and see if anything survived? I know from before when I got a temp spike to 104 it killed a lot of chicks but one survived from an egg that was really hot to handle - IT was the Maran chick hatched at 28 days. So I guess there is always hope?

Oes - glad to see so many getting live chicks this month.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you this time! I am down to 6 out of 40-ish. Day 21 tomorrow. I think mine are ending up like your last ones, though.

Oh that is really awful I am so sorry for you.
Though I can't help laughing at all our efforts when we thought that a live chick was inside that fractured egg and how gentle we were with it for weeks and how we waxed it and cared for it - only to find what we thought was chick was actually slow cooked scrambled egg wobbling about! YUCK! (I even gave it a name Madam Tusade - because wax works - but it didn't so she isn't!)
I sure hope you are wrong and you get live chicks. I am worried about mine but the temp and humidity are fine now like nothing happened??????? I wish I knew if they were ok? It is pointless and a waste of time money and effort to turn and lockdown dead eggs. For you to end up with so few is really sad. I am soooo hoping for chicks this time round but am not hopeful we will candle and see soon? I so wanted a blue egg to hatch - but I have white eggs this time because DH got Dorkings? ( That turned out to be blue eggs the first time they turned up! - which was the colour I wanted but were obviously not what DH ordered? - isn;t that ironic! Darn!

Thats why I didn't complain about them not being Dorkings because secretly I didn't want Dorkings! lol - now I think I have Dorkings? I may just spray the eggs blue! -

As long as they hatch and are healthy!

Oes
