May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Oh that is really awful I am so sorry for you.
Though I can't help laughing at all our efforts when we thought that a live chick was inside that fractured egg and how gentle we were with it for weeks and how we waxed it and cared for it - only to find what we thought was chick was actually slow cooked scrambled egg wobbling about! YUCK! (I even gave it a name Madam Tusade - because wax works - but it didn't so she isn't!)
I sure hope you are wrong and you get live chicks. I am worried about mine but the temp and humidity are fine now like nothing happened??????? I wish I knew if they were ok? It is pointless and a waste of time money and effort to turn and lockdown dead eggs. For you to end up with so few is really sad. I am soooo hoping for chicks this time round but am not hopeful we will candle and see soon?  I so wanted a blue egg to hatch - but I have white eggs this time because DH got Dorkings? ( That turned out to be blue eggs the first time they turned up! - which was the colour I wanted but were obviously not what DH ordered? - isn;t that ironic! Darn! :he Thats why I didn't complain about them not being Dorkings because secretly I didn't want Dorkings! lol - now I think I have Dorkings? I may just spray the eggs blue! - )

As long as they hatch and are healthy!

Oes

I am taking the easy way and have ordered a Dorking from Meyer's for August pick up. Along with a Sultan and Spitzhauben. I have a credit to use, so why not.

So fun to be maybe hatching with you again. My next hatch after tomorrow is May 23.

. Coronation is what I'm after they are wonderful birds I have lights in the bator now and out of 18 I hope to get a trio for foundation stock I love the Sussex breed I tryed to locate coronation eggs within a six hour drive of Ohio my last trip up but could only find the lights but they are from blue ribbon stock so I'm hoping for the best . no shipping I picked them up from the breeder and flew them down my self
Betty, the avatar, is half sussex. Her sister Doris was a Coronation and they were best buds until we lost Doris to an attack last fall. She was the tough gal that would always stand up to yard invaders. Turkeys, squirrels, baby racoons, other birds. We miss her. She was not SQ, but she was special to us.

Talk about squeeking in! I have a batch of shipped eggs to set tomorrow (they are in their post-shipment settling phase right now! 12 Cream Legbars, 6 Light Sussex, and 3 Lavender Orpingtons. This is my first time with shipped eggs, and I am not super hopeful as one box had a bashed-in corner and a broken egg, and ALL of the eggs have detached air sacs :-( I guess I will find out during the day 7 candle whether I will be continuing on the thread or just a lurker!

well tonight is the night i have not been waiting on ,,candling night 81 eggs i suspect i will be a while i always hate to candle while others are directly the opposite, the bators ( knock on wood ) this run have been superbly steady nothing has cropped up here at the end of day 8 to think of temps perfect humidity in the 30s spot on ,if the roo,s of all my immigrants have been working hard we will have no clears to toss that is the reason i hate to candle i always want them all to roll on to lock down lol such a pessimist any hoo I'm off to my candle box wish me luck

Well, its day 21 and my one little survivor a BCM (The Postal service left my hatching eggs in the outdoor community mail box in the middle of April it was -5 Celsius), is pipping through it's shell. I have 8 eggs (BBCM, Welsumer, Barnevelder and Ameraucana) waiting to go into my little bator when this little peep is done. Can't wait to see it hatch, if it waits for tomorrow, it will be my birthday present, the best present ever!!!!

Hi everyone!
So I am going into lockdown tomorrow and I am worried the water is going to be completely evaporated before they hatch. However I don't want to have to open the incubator to refill it and risk disturbing the humdity during lockdown. Any suggestions or experiences with humdity/water pans in lockdown?
Thanks in advance!

Do you have air holes or vent holes? I place my sponges under them so if I have to add water, I do it through the holes so I dont open the bator. Straws work great
