May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

NAAAASTY!
4 days into my 100 egg quail batch, I had a leaker.
Nasty smelling mess

It just sort of boiled over, so I took it out, the 3 eggs around it out, moved the eggs on that turner tray to another, and removed the tray.
By time I got done I had Hilex on the rack, hilex all over the hands, and I think I am ahead of it.
First time I have ever had an egg do that.
Is there any way that could have actually been a fresh laid egg, and go that rotten in 4 days?
Jim
oh no! So sorry to hear that. I wonder if bacteria can grow faster in nice warm humid environments?

I have ducklings! I didn't expect to get any because this hen is a flyer and spent little time with the drake as far as I could tell. I thought that she had spent too much time on the nest and the eggs were probably all infertile. Then this afternoon my daughter started yelling,"ducklings!!"

I went to see and, sure enough, there were LOTS of ducklings! I counted 18!!

This is a muscovy hen and this is her first time setting eggs and I am so proud of her! Her name is Winner and she lived up to her name again today. So I guess I can join the May hatch thread now that I have some newly hatched ducklings!

i found this poor guy with broody #1 he pipped yesterday so we left him with mom and his family with the intent of finding him hatched and running with the pack when we returned home this afternoon looks like he rolled out and hit the deck he was in the same position as when he pipped so we thought a lil assistance was in order here is the little crash rat after digging him carefully out of the train wreck after a few hours drying and fluffing up I'm my candling box with a improvised warmer ,,,,,,,chicken people always ready to improvise gotta love it,,,,lol

Today was his/her lucky day!!!!

Had a nice Mothers Day. Didnt rest one bit though.....lol Still have a horrible head congestion. I know its allergies, Oak tree pollen has turned my jeep green.
Candled Tolbunts tonight, removed 2 from the 2nd batch, so they are down to 6 now, still have 13 going on lockdown Tuesday, hatch day Friday. I have waited a long time to see these babies. I have 5 good aircells and 8 wonky ones, 3 pretty severe. So it is going to be a stressful hatch.
Also our oldest son is graduating from George Washington University on Sunday. My husband is going, but I will be staying home. I am so very proud of this kid. He spent 6 yrs in the Air Force and used his GI Bill to pay for schooling. He busted his butt and got his 4 year degree in 3 years! They told us it is VERY rare to see someone get a degree there with a GI Bill! His goal, Foreign Ambassador. And I know he will do it!
Sounds like everyone is having good hatches. I hope the luck rubs off!

HAPPY MOTHER's DAY to all you new chick moms! (Guys you'll get yours next month.).

I think we all have, in our combined hatching efforts, secured the future of poultry for the next several years. Lol! Wow, there's a lot of hatches going on and I'm glad to read most have been successful. I have another 11 due this week myself.

My first ever hatch got me 5 of seven with the one assist. Temps and humidity went haywire with the weird weather this week so I feel lucky for the five.

I hope everyone's hatches continue to go well!
